As a school community, we are extremely proud of our longstanding partnership with our sisters and brothers in the parish of St Peter’s in Mzuzu, Malawi.
In 2025, we celebrated the 18th anniversary of our Malawi Partnership, a valued and enduring relationship that continues to enrich both our school community and our partners in Malawi. To mark this significant milestone, four of our pupils and three members of staff took part in an exchange visit to Mzuzu, where they worked closely with our central partner school, St Peter’s Catholic Secondary School.
During the visit, pupils and staff fully immersed themselves in the daily life of St Peter’s, following pupil timetables and participating in classroom activities. They also had the opportunity to learn some of the local Malawian language, Chitumbuka, helping to build meaningful connections with pupils and members of the wider community. In return, our group shared aspects of Scottish culture, including teaching traditional ceilidh dancing, which was met with great enthusiasm.
Our group also worked in partnership with a range of local organisations, including Mzuzu Central Hospital’s Children’s Ward, the Women and Children’s Development Centre, local businesses, and St Peter’s partner primary school. Through these experiences, pupils developed a deeper understanding of community development, social responsibility, and the positive impact of partnership working. We were also honoured to meet with the Bishop of Mzuzu, who shared insights into his role within the local community and the Church, highlighting how faith-driven initiatives support the region.
This visit not only celebrated 18 years of friendship and shared learning, but also reaffirmed our commitment to our CLEAR gospel values, which continue to shape the development of our young people. We gained an immeasurable amount from our time in Malawi and are deeply grateful to the community of Mzuzu and all those whose generosity continues to make this partnership possible.
Lily, an S6 pupil who visited Malawi as part of this exchange, wrote about her experience which you can read here.
As of this year, we are able to support 12 pupils with full scholarships to study at St Peter’s Catholic Secondary School. If you would like to contribute to our partnership, please contact us.
