The Bronze Award is open to S3 pupils and is extremely popular within the school, with two expedition groups running each year.
Participants complete:
- Physical section
- Skills section
- Volunteering section
- Expedition section
Pupils attend weekly after-school training sessions between January and Easter where they learn:
- Navigation skills
- Route planning
- First Aid
- Campcraft
- Teamwork and expedition preparation
Bronze Expedition Route
The Bronze expeditions take place locally and provide pupils with their first experience of overnight expeditioning.
The route begins at Overton Car Park in Greenock, following the scenic Greenock Cut before heading to Everton Scout Camp for an overnight camp. On day two, pupils walk the Kelly Cut before finishing at Wemyss Bay train station.
Pupils described the expedition as:
“Great fun with really good scenery.”
“The camping bit was fun and I enjoyed hanging about with my pals.”
“It didn’t hurt too bad!”
