Our traffic management system operates fairly successfully but, given the awkward access to the school and the large number of pupils who are brought by car, is never going to be entirely satisfactory. With your co-operation, it will ensure that all children, whether transported to school by car or not, are being catered for in as safe a way as possible. With regard to our traffic management scheme please note the following points.
The designated drop-off/pick up area has been designed in such a way that cars do not have to reverse – a very important safety aspect. While the vast majority of car users are courteous and co-operative, concerns are on occasion raised by parents about the number of vehicles entering the staff car park. To help us manage the car park safely and effectively –
- Please do not bring cars into the designated area for staff, deliveries and emergency service vehicles. It is to ensure the children’s safety that the number of vehicles moving in this area is restricted as much as possible and that only those drivers with authorisation are allowed to enter.
- Keep the entry and exit points clear at all times.
- Also do not park on the paved areas as this means pedestrians, including young children have to walk in the car park where there are dangers of moving traffic.
There are several ways you may be able to help the situation:-
- Park outwith the school grounds.
- Do not park your car blocking the way for other people to drive past or get in or out of a space.
- If children are old enough drop them off then move on as this will free the space for others to use.
- Drive and park within the school grounds showing consideration and respect for all other drivers and pedestrians.
- When walking from the visitors car park to the school entrance use the path and zebra crossing, do not cut across the staff car park at other areas where there may be moving traffic.
Please ensure that these points are drawn to the attention of anyone who may transport your child to, or from, school.
Thank you for your co-operation.
