JASS Award

Primary 5, 6 and 7 pupils will have the opportunity to gain the JASS award.

How does it work?

JASS is made up of four sections:

My Interests – A new hobby or interest, or an existing one which can be developed further

 – This is about increasing ability and/or knowledge. This could be learning to play a musical instrument (or improving playing), baking, pet care, arts & crafts, music, research a topic of interest (e.g. dinosaurs, flags of the world, history of a football club, anything at all that grabs interest).

Get Active, Stay Active – Regular involvement in a sport or physical activity

– This is something over and above core curriculum PE. It could be walking or cycling to school every day, the ‘daily mile’, rugby, hockey or football training, dancing, cheerleading, horse riding, or go for a walk once a week and explore the nature of the local community.

Me and My World – A community or nature-based project

– This is an opportunity to get involved in your community, helping with things you care about. It might be maintaining a school or community garden, helping other children in a youth group, volunteering at a retirement home, or fundraising for your favourite charity.

Adventure – Involvement in outdoor activity

 – This can be a teamwork challenge involving problem solving, a team game, a walking excursion, orienteering in the school grounds.

In school the children will complete activities in order to complete the hours they need for Adventure and Me and my World. At home the children should aim to complete the sections Get Active Stay Active and My Interests.

Activities are evidenced in a JASS jotter provided by your child’s class teacher. Students receive a certificate on completion of each of the four sections and then an overall bronze, silver or gold certificate once they have completed all four areas.
