Primary 6/7

Welcome to Primary 6/7!

Our teachers are Miss Leahy and Mrs. Jackson. We have 23 pupils in our class: 13 Primary 7s and 10 Primary 6s.

We are enthusiastic about our learning and are motivated to do our best.

Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday. This term, we are taking part in Outdoor Learning on a Wednesday. Sensible outdoor clothing and shoes should be worn to allow all children to participate fully. We are currently progressing in our basketball skills in PE by practising our dribbling, passing, and shooting techniques. We are also discussing the importance of good sportsmanship, ensuring that we play fairly and respectfully. On Wednesdays in PE, we have been exploring the Paralympics and taking part in a range of activities, linking this to the Rights of the Child and Human Rights.

We have the opportunity to explore our learning in different ways, through active learning including games, group activities, and the use of ICT, as well as more formal texts.

In Numeracy, we are working on the 4 Operations (Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction) and practising a range of strategies we can use to solve calculations and word problems. We have also been extending our knowledge of 2D/3D shapes and learning the properties and vocabulary used to describe more complex shapes.

In Literacy, we are learning to up-level our creative writing using “Show, Don’t Tell,” a range of punctuation, practising our dictionary skills, and learning how to use a thesaurus to incorporate more ambitious vocabulary. We are also developing our comprehension skills by reading a range of texts, skimming and scanning to find relevant information, and answering a variety of questions.

Our topic this term, which we have all been enjoying, is Japan. We are studying the country’s geography, famous landmarks, the Samurai, and the fascinating Japanese culture.

Parents, you can find out more about your child’s learning through Seesaw. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact Miss Leahy through Seesaw or via the school office.
