Hello and welcome to our wonderful Primary 1/2 class, which is taught by Mrs Docherty (Monday – Wednesday)and Mrs Finlayson (Wednesday – Friday). We have 18 children in our class (9 primary 1 children and 9 primary 2 children). We use play based learning and teacher-led experiences. Our classroom and open area are always VERY busy!
All children enjoy learning phonics through the Jolly Phonics program. We share information including the actions, and song and sound files with parents and carers weekly to help support your children with their learning. We also develop our reading fluency and comprehension skills through the ORT reading scheme, and the children enjoy taking their books home. We regularly access QR codes for the children to practise their literacy skills via online games. Active and play based learning experiences make up a significant part of our literacy learning.
We split numeracy and maths between the teachers to ensure continuity and progression, currently Mrs Docherty is teaching numeracy and Mrs Finlayson is teaching maths, however we do swap this around. As with literacy, children learn through a variety of play, active and ICT activities.
Our P.E. days are Tuesday afternoon with Mrs Docherty, and Friday afternoon with Mrs Finlayson. We also have outdoor learning on a Wednesday afternoon, which we each lead on alternate weeks.
This term our topic is Dinosaurs – and we are exploring lots of aspects and facts about the dinosaur world. In addition to this we try to base art / play experiences around our topic, making cross curricular links where we can.
If you have any questions or would like to speak to us regarding your child, please feel free to contact us on Seesaw or through the school office and we will be more than happy to help. 😊
