VE Day – Friday 8th May

What is it and why do we remember?

VE Day – or ‘Victory in Europe Day’ – marks the day towards the end of World War Two (WW2) when fighting against Nazi Germany in Europe came to an end.

On 8 May 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio at 3pm that the war in Europe had come to an end, following Germany’s surrender the day before.

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day on 8 May why not take some time to design your own bunting.

I have been investigating ways to keep us  all engaged and reading as often as possible. I have been looking into doing a novel study and thought what better than the fun and adventurous book ‘Gangsta Granny,’ that I  know a lot of you enjoy.

I have managed to get chapters 1 to 3. Just click on the link below.

Gangsta Granny Chapter 1 to 3

Miss Taylor’s Top  Tip would be to have the book pages open and have the audio book on in the background. That way you can follow the story and read along with it.

Once you have finished reading and listening to the story please work your way through the questions up to the end of chapter 3.
Work through pages 2 -7

Health and Well-being

GROWTH MINDSET FOCUS

At the moment, you might be feeling a bit down in the dumps or feeling like you can’t achieve something.

YOU are capable of anything as long as you believe in yourself and keep trying.

Here is a video for each day of this week. I would like you to watch them and reflect on the key message and then message me with something that you have a growth mindset about. This can be anything you are doing at home!

DAY 5

Remember boys and girls

“Our greatest weekness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try one more time.”  Thomas Edison

Stay positive everyone and look after your mental health.

ART

Growth Mindset – Anyone can be an artist!

  1.  Grab a black pen

  2.  Let your hand go free and create loops and zig-zags on your paper.

  3. Mix up colours to create a piece of art.

Remember as I always say, doing art shows that the more effort and time you put into something, the better the end results will be!

Everyone is an artist as no one will create 2 of the same. 🙂

If you haven’t completed the support for all of those who are working hard through these times, find the document below.

Topic – The Rainforest

Remember to check out the grid of activities for you to do on the rainforest. So head over and check it out. 🙂

Miss Taylor is looking forward to reading your research tasks on the Rainforest. When we return to school we will spend time sharing our learning on the Rainforest

In Term 4 we will be working on a Science topic learning about sound. As an introduction to this new topic use the log on details below to get on to the Tig Tag website.
 (USERNAME: gw09farromorag PASSWORD: Tigtag2018)
Click on the what is sound link below to open up activities.

What is Sound?  <—- click

Once we understand more about sound a big part of our learning will be researching how animals use sound to communicate. I felt this fitted in really well with our Rainforest topic and I think it will be a really interesting topic for us to learn about.

Languages

I thought this week we would learn Sign Language

A little bit about Sign language

Sign Language is a visual means of communicating using gestures, facial expression, and body language. Sign Language is used mainly by people who are Deaf or have hearing impairments.

Can you sign your name?

Please also take the time to explore the huge range of apps and websites that are available on the blog.

Please also log onto the Teams chat via outlook to tell everyone what apps/websites/games you have been on that you enjoyed so that others can try them too.

Live chat this week will be at 11:00am on Thursday morning via Teams chat to see if time suits everyone better.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you then.

Speak to you soon,

Miss Taylor 🙂
