16+Learning Choices/More Choices, More Chances

What is 16+ Learning Choices?

16+ Learning Choices is a model for ensuring that every young person has an appropriate, relevant, attractive offer of learning made to them, well in advance of their school leaving date.  16+ Learning Choices is an offer by local authorities and their partners to all young people.

How does this work in North Ayrshire?

in our schools, a team approach is adopted where transition planning takes place taking account of the needs and aspirations of young people.  Planning meetings often involve working closely with colleagues in Skills Development Scotland Careers Advisers who are able to provide information on what learning and work opportunities are available.

What is More Choices, More Chances (MCMC)

More Choices, More Chances is the strategy aimed at eradicating the number of 15-19 year olds who are not in education, employment or training (NEET).  This strategy has pre-and post-16 strands.  Work ongoing in North Ayrshire schools aims to prevent school leavers entering the NEET category and as such identifies and targets specific young people for whom this is a greater risk.

Schools are working with identified young people (and wider partners) to provide further support with flexible and personalised learning opportunities in the Senior phase.  These supports include activities to develop employability, skills for work and life.
