The Eco Council began this session by completing an Environmental Review about our school and how ‘eco friendly’ we are. After answering lots of questions, we were able to identify our areas for improvement and decided to focus on developing our school grounds and recycling within our school.
Firstly, we launched a competition for a new Eco Code in Ardeer Primary and had lots of super entries. We had a walk around the school and decided that the front entrance needed to be tidied up to look more appealing to parents, carers and visitors. We planted lots of clematis plants in the playground and dug out the weeds from between the slabs and in the planters.
We thought that the planters looked tired and worn so we decided to paint them to spruce them up. We were pleased with the results and they looked even better once we planted flowers in them. Mr Boyd very kindly put some brackets on the wall and we decorated them with hanging baskets.
We also discussed the issue of recycling in our school. We spoke with our janitor to see how we could improve and looked at the North Ayrshire policy on recycling. We now need to work on implementing a new system within the school which will allow us to recycle effectively. This will be our goal for the start of next session.
I would like to thank the boys and girls for their hard work within the Eco Group this year. It has been a pleasure to work with them all and we have certainly achieved lots.
