Radio and Radar Waves Talk during STEM Week

We were lucky enough to have Stu Rolfe come and talk to us about radio IMG_6067

and radar waves during STEM week. He demonstrated how radio and radar waves work using a photo of a typhoon and ping pong balls! We found this a really interesting talk and had a lot of fun with string telephones and passing messages.

Primary 6 / 7 Term 3

This term our Context for Learning was Thrills and Spills. We have investigated forces in theme parks, particularly roller coasters, ferris wheels and loop the loops. We used this understanding to build our own marble roller coasters from junk. These were very successful, a lot of fun and allowed pupils to develop their knowledge of potential and kinetic energy. We also debated whether a theme park should be built in Lossiemouth with Miss Noel. Stem challenges were a big part of our term, and the pupils worked really hard to develop their growth mindset, perseverance and resilience. The pupils were very busy during STEM week with our visits to Morayvia and the Moray Science Fair, and presentations from the RAF about hydraulics, radio and radar waves, which was a lot of fun! Our team were really successful at the SCDI STEM club festival in Inverness, where we won the Regional Club of the year for the North East. Our lollypop bridge managed to hold 15 water bottles – which was a great achievement!
