Welcome to Moray Youth Matters

Welcome to the Moray Youth Matters Group

We are a group of young people from across Moray representing other young people who discuss and make changes to important issues in Moray.

We look at issues related to young people, e.g, rights, social issues, health and well-being. We invite other points of view and we work together and with other agencies to make a difference.

This is because it’s important for young people to have a voice and make the lives of young people better.

You can follow our social media accounts and updates on the Young Scot page by clicking the icons above.

Lossie Youth Worker

Hi I’m Tracy, Youth worker at Lossie High School.

The part of the day I most look forward to is in the evening when I work on a ridiculously difficult (i.e. s-l-o-w) jigsaw, listening to radio 2 with my dogs snoring contentedly beside me.  My 3 kids are grown up, so I have time now to enjoy kayaking along with my baby sis on her paddle board.  Last year I started snorkelling and plan to follow the West Coast snorkel trail when things get back to normal

I was a seafarer before being a youth worker, so I am really keen to encourage young people to go for their personal goals, making the most of any support available to them as they make steps towards the life they want for themselves.

My own life goals are to finish my studying, continue to nurture my well-being, physical and mental, and in a few years, adopt an elderly pug.

Elgin Youth Worker

Hi everyone,

I’m Marc Doherty and I’ve been with the team for around 9 years.

I have lived in Elgin most of my life but moved to Glasgow for a short time while I completed my Degree in Performing Arts. Soon after returning to Elgin I found my way into Youth work.

I’m a gadget geek and have been known to own some ridiculous things ( Wendy will vouch for that) I love horror movies and my PS4 (soon to be PS5)

I own a 3 year old French Bulldog named Ozzy and can often be seen out walking him, feel free to say hi if you ever spot us.

I look forward to working with some of you in the future.

Elgin Senior Youth Worker

Hi folks,

My name is Wendy Toner and I’ve been a youth worker for over 33 years here in Elgin.

I really enjoy groupwork more than any other kind of youthwork. It can be great fun, with a fair bit of learning in there too. That’s the beauty of youthwork, a lot of the time it’s so much fun you don’t realise you are learning!

I live in New Elgin, where I was born. I have two children who are now grown adults. My daughter went to Elgin High School and my son went to Elgin Academy, many years ago now.

I have two dogs! A little Lhasa Apso called Daisy, who will be 16 on her birthday. And I also have a Cocker Spaniel who is 6 and her name is Morag.

When I am not doing Youth work I love walking and finding new routes to trek with my dogs. I really love walking in Scotland as its the most beautiful country in the world.
When I go on holiday my favourite place is a very small village called Calis, in Turkey.

I love to visit Turkey as the people are so friendly, the food is superb and the weather is so lovely.

So that’s a little about me, please say hi to me if I pass you by in a school corridor, or the corner shop! Or if your really nice, you could offer me a chip at lunchtime!
