P6/7S Home School Learning 23 March 20

Hello pupils, parents and carers of P6/7.

I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend under these unusual circumstances. Each week we are off school, aside from the holidays, I will post suggested ideas on here for you to do. These suggestions can be expanded or reduced to meet your circumstances as we know this is a challenging time. At the top of this post you can see ‘Second Level Learning Pack’. In this pack there is a wealth of resources but please do not think you must complete these. The suggestions I give you will be in this resource or you can alter them as you wish.

Maths – It is often a good idea to ask the child what area they would like to develop further. This gives them increased motivation. However a generic suggestion would be measurement. We have covered measuring in mm, cm and metre in class as well as measuring area, perimeter and volume. Please see the maths section of the Home Learning Pack for suggested activities.

Writing – Pupils could write a fictional recount of a night experiencing The Blitz in WW2. We have looked at The Blitz in class. Pupils could write about the experience in a flat in London. Where did they find refuge? What did it sound like? What could they hear, smell, taste, etc. The website below has a small video on The Blitz that might add some inspiration. Although I am not allocating spelling, misspelt words during writing could be focused on. Use the active spelling sheets in the Learning Pack to help.

Reading – We have recently completed our termly reading homework and we were reading Goodnight Mr Tom before the school closed. I recommend getting pupils to read some of the articles on Newsround and ask them to verbalise what it was about. If you wish them to have a bigger challenge choose a website intended for adults. For example BBC news.

Health and Wellbeing – Joe Wicks has free 30 minute workouts on YouTube each work day at 9am. These are great routines require little room and no equipment, a great way to start the day! If possible watch it on a mobile device in the garden. You can watch these at anytime.

YouTube – The Body Coach TV

Other – WW2 Project

Please see the Learning Pack ‘Topics’ section. Pupils could start a project on WW2. They would not be expected to finish this during this week alone.

Again, to reiterate, there is no pressure to complete all the work. We realise the ability to complete these activities vary from house to house with varying circumstances. Regardless of when we return, your teacher(s) will be prepared to support your learning where you are and how to move your learning on.

Take care,

Mr Stuart
