P4WN Home Learning Week 5 11.5.20

Home Learning Packs – P4WN 11.5.20 Week 5

Hello P4WN. We hope you had a lovely long weekend and that you enjoyed some VE Day celebrations. It was great to get some photos and work sent to us. There looked like quite a few cakes as well! Fabulous effort!

Last week we had our second Team meeting and it was great to see more of you managing to join in, as well as Miss Clark. This week our meeting is going to be on Tuesday morning at 10 am. Now that we have all had a chat and caught up a little, we’d like you to be ready to talk about one thing and that is what makes you happy. You might just like to put it in the chat bar instead of speaking or you might like to send us pictures.

This week is a short school week for pupils as the teachers have INSET (in service training days) on Thursday and Friday.

Numeracy/maths

  • This week pupils could practise their money skills. You can work up to whichever numbers are suitable for you. There are a few practical ideas for you below:
  1. Create a shop in your house. Use food items from the kitchen. You could either get an adult to help you with the pricing or look up the internet. Do you have a good idea about how much certain items cost? Get someone to help you to take turns being the shopkeeper/customer.  Can you add two or more items together mentally? Can you give the right change from 50p, £1, £2, £5, £10?
  2. Use an old shopping receipt. Choose different items from it to add together. If you have a calculator you could check your totals. Check the total bill as well!
  3. Create a shop poster. Choose the type of shop you would like to design items for e.g. the toy shop. Draw and label with the realistic costs of the items.

There are a couple of worksheets to choose from too.

The new Sumdog challenge is linked to money. Complete the challenge and play the games as well.  You can still complete games/activities on Active Maths too.

Literacy

  • We hope you are still enjoying the many ways that you can read and access books. This week pupils could try to find a fact book to read for information (or online – you need to find work that is easy for you to understand). It could be about anything that interests you – Vikings, Animals, Space, Gadgets, Birds – whatever you like. Take some notes to show that you understand what you are reading and try to pick out the main points. We have done a bit of this in P4 already. Remember that it’s important that you use your own words and don’t just copy down lots of information straight from the text.
  • Once you’ve done that you can create a fact file with illustrations to make it more interesting. You can use the example below for an idea on how to get started.

Health and Wellbeing

  • Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost your physical and mental wellbeing. The main aspects of yoga are postures (movements designed to build up strength and flexibility) and breathing. Yoga started in India about 5000 years ago and now is practiced in many places all around the world. The website below will be a good place to start if you want to give it a try!

  • Don’t forget to visit Miss McNab’s page on the main website and her twitter page for her weekly challenges too!

STEM

  • This week we have an engineering challenge for you to try. Can you build a marble run using materials you have at home? Watch the video below and send us any photos/videos of your finished runs!

Have a great week!
