P3K Home School Learning 27 April 20 Week 3

Welcome to Term 4 week 3!

I have loved seeing all the amazing work you have been doing at home. Learning at home is very different to learning at school. It takes a whole new set of skills. Staying focussed and motivated is less easy with so many other distractions. I am really proud of you all! Here are some new tasks to keep you busy in the coming week.

A new way to keep in touch.

This week we are introducing our class ”Teams.” Microsoft Teams is a secure platform we are using to further improve communication between teachers, parents, pupils and carers. The package ‘Teams” is available through pupils’ GLOW accounts which you were previously encouraged to register with. You should have received a text about this but if not then email the school office in order to receive the text.

If you have not registered your child/yourself onto GLOW, then you will need to do this before you can access Teams. Please follow the video below to register your pupil/s GLOW account. If you have previously completed this please read the next paragraph.

Logging onto GLOW

Please follow the video below to get yourself/ your child onto your school class Teams page. I have created a P3K Teams page and it is ready for you. This page allows teachers to use a chat room to speak directly to pupils or parents.

How is home learning for you and your family?

You will receive a text about an online survey asking how you are getting on with home learning. Details will also be in the newsletter. We would really appreciate it if you could take a minute or two to answer the questions. Your responses will help us ensure we are getting it right for all our children!

Maths

We are still thinking about fractions.

Can you draw a garden which contains 20 flowers. Make half of the flowers red, one quarter blue and one quarter orange.

Draw a pond full of fish.   Make half of the fish orange, one quarter blue and one quarter purple.

Little brain teaser!

Sam and Sue share a pizza. Sam gets half the pizza and Sue gets two quarters of the pizza. Who got more?

I have added some additional fraction games onto www.activelearnprimary.co.uk . If anyone is having trouble accessing these activities please get in touch and I will help you out. I have rescued the full list of log ins from school now!

I can remind you of your Sumdog logins as well if you need them. Sumdog is another great online learning platform where pupils can practise their maths skills whilst playing fun games.

I addition, you follow the link below for some extra fraction activities.

Writing

Write a letter to a friend or relative you haven’t seen for a while. Think about how to set your letter out. Remember to include your address and the date. Start your letter by asking how the person is. (This will need a question mark!) Tell them a little bit about what you have been doing, and some of the things you are looking forward to doing once the lockdown is over. You could post your letter, or take a photo of it and email it to your special person. Letters can really hep to cheer people up if they are feeling a bit lonely. You never know. You might get a letter back!

Reading

Go back to the Oxford Owl ebook library (www.oxfordowl.co.uk) Find “Minibeast Poems” Read the poems on your own, or with a grown up. Lots of the poems rhyme. Can you make a list of some of the sets of rhyming words you can see/hear in the poems?

Science

I hope you managed to watch the film about the lighthouse keeper last week. Did you know that most lighthouses do not have lighthouse keepers any more? They are automated which means the lights are powered by electricity and they are controlled by computers.

Make a list of all the things you can find in your house that are powered by electricity.

Ready for an extra challenge?

Some will need to be plugged in, and other will use batteries. Sort them into two lists.

Health and wellbeing

Are you managing to keep your bodies as well as your minds busy? Your challenge this week is to make up a fitness circuit. You could do it in the garden, or the house. Use some pieces of paper to write down each activity. You could include star jumps, spotty dogs, squat kicks…..anything! Try to think of at least 5 different exercises to include.   Place your activity labels around the garden/house.   Then move around your circuit spending a minute at each station. You could borrow a phone with a timer on it. Try to do your circuit at least twice each day. If you get fed up you could always change some of your exercises. I’d love to see some pictures of you doing your fitness circuit!

Have fun, and stay safe!
