P2C Home Learning WEEK 5 (Term 4) 11 May 20

P2 Learning for Term 4 week 5 (beginning 11.05.20)

Good morning to you all. We hope you had a good week last week and enjoyed some outdoor activities in the sun.

We loved all the photos you’ve been sending us; the mandalas and natural art, the VE Day creations, the fraction work and of course Miss McNab’s challenge. We know lots of you are doing other kinds of exciting things, especially baking, and we love getting those photos too . It brings a smile to our faces as we are missing you very much.

It was an absolute delight for us to be able to talk to so many of you last week and we hope you enjoyed the Team chat with the rest of your class too. Don’t worry if you didn’t manage to connect with us, we will set up another one soon. Keep your eyes peeled for that information.

Remember this week is a 3 day week for you as there are 2 in-service days.

Your morning starter this week is a number challenge:

Choose a number between 10 and 100. You can get your parents/carers to choose a number for you too.

Do each step for your chosen number. When it comes to ‘add’ and ‘subtract’ use 5. You can then choose a different number to add and subtract. Challenge yourself with different numbers.

Reading: Since it is only a three day learning week, we would like you to have a go at some of the reading challenges which you did not manage to complete before.

If you are running out of books to read have a look at Oxford Owl. You will need to register, however, it is free to use.

Writing:  This week we would like you to have a go at writing us a letter. We would like to hear what you have been up to but instead of writing it we thought that you could have a go at emailing us using your Glow email account. Please don’t type your home address at the top of the email, you can just put the date at the top.

Things to consider when doing your writing:

  • Who is your letter for?
  • Write about one thing you’ve enjoyed from your learning last week.
  • Write about one thing you’ve enjoyed at home that is not linked to your learning.
  • using a joining word.
  • capital letters/full stops/neat writing.

* Remember writing is a process therefore it does not need to be done in one sitting. Don’t forget to reread what you have written to make sure it makes sense.

You can type it on a word document first if you wish or you can email us directly.

Our email addresses are:

Numeracy: As we mentioned last week, we are learning about fractions and this week’s maths is based on fractions of shapes. In class, we have covered: half (½) , quarter (¼) and third (⅓).

Can you find some 2D shapes in and around your home? You might have to use a face of a 3D shape to help you. Draw round the shape (it might be a circle, square, rectangle or something else that you find) and then cut it out. Can you make the shape into halves and quarters? Try to see if you can make thirds from the shape. Which is the easiest fraction to make? Which is the most challenging? What other shapes can you draw round? Can you find fractions of those shapes easily?

If you are having trouble finding 2D shapes, you can try using these shapes.

Just for some fun:

Some of you have been asking for the link to the fraction song. Click on the link and try to join in.

** Moray Sumdog Contest** We have entered the two P2 classes into the Moray Sumdog Contest which will start on the 15th of May and finish on the 21st of May.  Sumdog’s questions are based on accuracy and are tailored to each pupil’s level – so everyone has a fair chance of winning.

During the contest:

  • Students should simply play Sumdog’s mathematics games. As they do so, they’ll answer questions that contribute to their score.
  • Your class’s score is the average number of correct answers across the students who take part.
  • There’s a maximum of 1000 questions for each student – so accuracy is more important than effort!
  • Students can play at any time during the contest week.
  • To qualify for the leader boards, at least 10 students from a class need to play.

Health and Wellbeing

Write down your name so that you can see all the letters. Use the following fitness activity to exercise to your name. Try using your surname too.

Have a go using the names of your friends or other people in your family and see if they can join in too! Try it with our names. Who has the easiest name?

French: We have been learning the colours with Mrs Hopes in French. Draw or make  a rainbow – un arc-en-ciel. Practise the colours in French.

Here is the rainbow song in French . Click on the link and try to join in.
