P2 Learning for Term 4 week 10 (beginning 15.06.20)
Well done to you all for getting to this week of learning from home. This has been a very different term to what we expected but we are both amazed at how well you have coped. It is the last week that we will be putting up any ‘work’ for you to do as the next two weeks are devoted to Health Week.
You will be finding out your new classes and your new teachers this week and a New Class Teams Meet will be set for next week sometime. Next term will be a little bit different to what you know but it will be the same for everyone, including us! Please don’t worry as the adults are all here to help you.
On Tuesday June 16th at 1.30pm we will have our last P2 Teams Meeting. We cannot believe it’s nearing the end of P2; I wish we could have had a proper send off in person! It will be nice however, to have a chat one last time. If your child hasn’t had a chance to join our meetings before it would be a good idea to try it out this week before the Teams Meeting with your new teacher for the next school year. During the meeting we would like the children to share their favourite memory from P2 (it might be helpful to have a flick through twitter pictures to remind the children what we have been up to).

This week we would like you to practise your tricky words. It is a good idea to practise spelling them as well as read them.
Create a word search using words from the columns. You can choose words from 1 column, 2 columns or a mix of words from different columns that you need to practise. Challenge: Why don’t you ask an adult in your house to create a wordsearch for you to complete. Use the wordsearch template if you wish.
Practise your words in different ways. Think about all the different ways we do this in class. Here are some ideas in case you have forgotten.
Some extra ones to try at home:
Writing: Create a poster “All About Me” for your new teacher and class. You can draw pictures, use photos, colourful writing, different headings etc. Remember to make it eye catching. Please take some photos of your work so we can share your poster with your new teacher. We will not post these on the main Twitter page because they will contain personal information, but we will send it to them privately. A possible template: All About Me
Some ideas you might want to include are:
- A picture or drawing of you
- Your favourite colour
- Your favourite hobbies
- Your favourite book
- A picture or drawing of your friend
- Your favourite food
An example:
Art/Maths : We have already looked for patterns in nature in a previous week. This week we would like you to look for symmetry in nature. Something is symmetrical when it is the same on both sides. A shape has symmetry if a central dividing line (a mirror line) can be drawn on it, to show that both sides of the shape are exactly the same.
When you are out for a walk, have a look around you to see if you can find anything symmetrical.
Create a symmetrical template – you might need the help from a grown up with the cutting, making it the same on both sides. Use it to make symmetrical pictures outside. (These photos are not quite symmetrical but they are just to give you an idea.)
Or use natural things to create a symmetrical picture.
Maths: It is really important to have a good understanding of number bonds and the basic operations in maths to help with the ability to solve mental maths problems. With this in mind, the more practise you have, the better you will become. You have already played “Hit The Button” but another Top Marks game is the “Mental Maths Train”. You can choose the operation you want to practise by picking your truck and then you can select your game mode. Go ahead and challenge yourself.

The last couple of months have been really different to what we are used to. It has been a big change and quite an anxious time for many. We have some lovely stories for you to have a look at which might help you understand the different feelings you might have and how to deal with them.
These stories are a great starting point for a conversation with your child about the way they feel in the current situation and how they can deal with those feelings. The stories can be revisited any time; it is probably a good idea to look at them again in August before the children start school again.
Children can feel anxious about different things at different ages. Many of these worries are a normal part of growing up. There are ways of helping children deal with their worries.
It is helpful to point out that many problems are temporary and solvable, and that there will be better days. You can help reduce worries by helping children learn to deal with challenging situations. This week we would like you to support your child in writing down some of their worries they might have about going back to school and joining a new class in August.
We then would like you to create a Worry Ladder.
This is where you can help your child recognise the difference between the bigger and smaller worries. Put the bigger worries at the top and the smaller ones to the bottom of the ladder. Prioritising the worries and talking with the children about possible solutions to the worries will hopefully make them feel less overwhelmed and supported.
We would also like you to have a look at this social story for going back to school. It is a good resource to use to prepare your child for what school might look like when we go back in August.

Although we are not putting up work for the next two weeks, please remember that I am still available through the usual channels. It really just remains for me to thank you very much for an amazing year. You really are a wonderful class and I am very proud of each and everyone of you in all that you have achieved this year and coped with this last term. I am very sad that I never got to see you properly this term, but you have all been an absolute pleasure to teach. Your new teachers will be very lucky to have such hardworking and happy children. Parents, I know that it hasn’t finished the way I would have wished, however I am very grateful for your continuing support of us and your children through these very different times. THANK YOU!
