Good morning Parents & Carers.
Attached in the link above is Learning Pack to support the pupils and their learning during these unusual circumstances. I will publish suggested areas of focus each Monday – except during the scheduled school holidays- and the Learning Pack contains resources, ideas and support aids to maintain consistency. These are by no means extensive or mandatory, merely suggestions. They can be expanded or shortened depending on your circumstances.
Maths – Please ask your children if there is an section of Maths that they wish to recap, improve or explore. This will often engage and motivate pupils. A suggestion for this week is Measurement. As a class we measured in mm,cm & m + converted between measures. How many mm make 1cm & 1m – converting by 10,100 & 100. Also we calculated perimeter, area and volume of classroom objects.
Writing – Write a fictional recount of a night during the Blitz in WW2. Using their Visualising skill taught during Higher Order Reading the pupils can use description to recount what they could see, hear, touch, smell, taste and feel emotionally. When the Blitz sirens started how would they keep safe (shelters)? Where did they go? What time of day was it? How long did a Blitz raid last?
Any misspelled words can be a focus of learning, and use the spelling grid activities in the Learning Pack to practice these words.
Reading – As a class we were reading Goodnight Mr. Tom to tie in with the WW2 topic, plus we were reading Awful Auntie for our Higher Order Reading. Understandably we didn’t finish either so pupils are welcome finish these books if they are available. If not please read approx. 3 chapters of a chosen book and summarise what they’ve read into 1 paragraph.
HWB – Joe Wicks has free 30 min workouts on Youtube and will live stream classes every morning at 9am. Pupils can access these on any device and they require little to no equipment or space to participate. If they have access to mobile devices they could try it in the garden or an outside space.
Youtube – Joe Wicks Body Coach
Other – WW2 Project
Please see the ‘Topics’ section in the Learning Pack. Pupils could continue their WW2 topic exploring an area that interests them that we haven’t covered yet, or an area we have covered that they wish to know more about. This isn’t expected to be finished this week.
Please rest assured there isn’t any pressure to complete all the work. We realise the ability to complete these activities will vary from house to house depending on circumstances. When we do return to school teachers will be ready to support your child’s learning.
Have a great week,
Mr O’Neill
