Home Learning Packs – P4WN 15.6.20 Week 10
Hello P4WN and welcome to week 10 of term 4.
It was lovely to hear from so many of you at last week’s Team meeting where there were some great answers in our ‘Scattegories’ games. Well done to you all! This week’s meeting is on Wednesday at 10.30 am when we will be doing a scavenger hunt as well as catching up with your weekly news. This will be our final Team meeting as the last two weeks of term are going to be our Health Week(s) and staff are to be in school clearing classrooms and preparing for our return in August.
We have really appreciated getting all your emails, twitter messages, photos and uploaded work this term. It was great to see so many of you engaged and managing to keep learning in lots of different ways. Thank you to all our families for being supportive, positive and coping so well!
This week our learning is all going to be based around the theme of ‘space’.
Literacy
- Neil Armstrong was the first astronaut to step onto the moon’s surface. Watch the video below to see that landing.

- Read more about Neil Armstrong and answer the questions that go along with the comprehension that suits you the most.

- You can choose from the following writing tasks this week:
- Write an imaginative story with the title, ‘The Day an Alien Came to Teach my Class’. Remember to include a title, interesting words and phrases and some illustrations. Use correct punctuation and paragraphs too.
- Write an acrostic poem using one of the planet names or other space themed words. Remember to use great adjectives/phrases and illustrate using an appropriate design. There is an example on the link below.
Numeracy/maths
- This week’s numeracy tasks are space themed and on a variety of topics!

There is a new Sumdog challenge this week called ‘Mixed Skills’. P4WN are also entered in the final Moray Sumdog Contest of the year which starts on Friday 19th and finishes on Thursday 25th. You all did really well in the last one so let’s see if you can answer even more questions accurately this time!
Good luck for your final challenges of the year but remember you can still keep playing Sumdog in the coming weeks, even if there is no set challenge.
Health and Wellbeing
- As our health week(s) are coming up, we hope that some of you have sent in your talent show videos to Mr Stuart (stuart7@moray-edunet.gov.uk).
- You can do anything: play an instrument, sing, dance, perform some magic, tell jokes, juggle– whatever you think! Remember, your video has to last no more than one minute.
- Entries should be in by Friday 26th June at the latest.
- If you would rather not take part in the talent show, you could still practise something that you are already good at or you would like to get better at. Send us any photos of you performing your talent. We would love to see them!
- There are some space mindfulness colouring sheets for you to complete when you would like a peaceful time in the week too.
- colouring pages
- Lots of people have participated in Miss McNab’s weekly challenges, so remember that you can do that too! You will find the information on her link below.

Art
- Vincent Van Gogh was a very famous painter and one of his most well-known paintings was ‘Starry Night’. Use the link below to watch a tutorial on how to recreate his picture. You will need paper and any medium for the colouring: pencils, pens, crayons, paints, anything you have at home. You could even make a 3D collage using recyclable materials or crafting items. Again, we would love to see you completed work!

Rights Respecting School (RRS)
We are focusing on an article each week and this week’s is:
Article 28 – Definition & Activities
Definition – Article 28 – The right to education
Every child has the right to an education.
Primary education must be free and different forms of secondary education must be available to every child.
Discipline in schools must respect children’s dignity and their rights. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.
Introduction Thinking Question – Think of as many reasons as you can why education is important for children and young people
Possible Answers :
- have skills to improve things and help people
- form opinions and views about things
- learn things, gain knowledge and pass exams
- know how to stay safe and healthy
- learn how to respect other people’s ideas and get on with other people
- get a job they enjoy and earn money
- make informed choices
- learn about things that are important for the world
- grow up to be responsible adults
Choose one of the following activities (or more if you would like!)
- Create your ideal timetable for a week at school or home. Provide a quality education.
- Create your ideal teacher. Draw an outline and write what makes a good teacher. Be a Mr Jensen!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4p5286T_kn0
- What makes a good learner? Invent a cartoon character to represent a good learner.
- Think about everything that happens in your school, what all the adults do to help you in class and out of class. Write a recipe for a Rights Respecting School.
- Research and present a one- page document on education in a different country. Think about school day, timings, uniform, subjects etc.
Have a lovely week and thank you all for being such a fantastic class!
