Hello parents, carers and pupils,
We hope that everyone is keeping safe and well. Thank you to everyone who has been communicating with us via Glow email, Twitter and MS Teams. As previously stated, it appears that home learning will be continuing for the foreseeable future and, with this in mind, we are continuing to prepare a range of activities to support you at home. Please remember this is only a guide and our message is to do what you can, when you can. There is no expectation to complete all the activities as we are fully aware that everybody’s circumstances are different during these challenging times.

V.E. Day
This Friday is V.E. Day which marks the end of WW2. Many people celebrated with parties and get togethers. On Friday why not have a garden party! You can bake a cake, make some tea / lemonade and sit out with your family to celebrate. Start by making an invitation to family in your home inviting them to your V.E. day celebrations. Make sure it contains all the information you need to tell them about the celebration. Why not create some colourful decorations to commemorate the day and have FUN!
We have attached an information sheet about V.E. day to read. This will help you understand how World War 2 ended and how V.E. day was celebrated in 1945.
We have also attached some links to colouring sheets and bunting for you. If you do not have a printer, design your own! Send us some pictures of your V.E. Day celebrations.
Check-In
On Tuesday, at 10am, we will be holding our first class meeting on our MS Teams page. This will give pupils the chance to chat with teachers and each other, like a circle time activity. The pupils will be guided around all the features of an online meeting and will be able to share how they are doing. We hope to hear from many of our class. Please go to the P3/4DS Teams page on Tuesday at 10am and click on the ‘join meeting’ tab in the main chat section.

Problem Solving
During the war, Morse code was used to communicate so that messages could not be understood by the enemy. Use the attached activity to see if you can understand the messages. (the answers are attached, try it out first!) Make your own messages to share with the family too – can they crack the code?
Measurement/ Design and Technology
Use the attached pdf to make your own Spitfire Glider. If you do not have a printer you can create your own one from a simple paper plane design. Can you estimate how far it will travel (in standard and non-standard units)? Next measure how far your glider has travelled in non-standard and standard units. Ask different members of the family to throw the glider. Who can make it travel the furthest? What is the difference in length between the greatest and least distance travelled? Record the answers on the sheet attached.

Sumdog
Well done to those who have been practising times tables on Sumdog. We currently have over half the class taking part. We understand that access to computers may be difficult for some families. We have created a little quiz this week we would like you to complete. If you have forgotten your username or password, please contact us via Twitter, Glow email or our MS Teams page.
Writing
This week for writing we would like you to write about what you plan to do when ‘Lockdown’ is over. It can be as adventurous as you like. For example, you might want to go on a holiday to Disneyland with your family, you may even want to come back to school. Your challenge this week is to remember to use correct punctuation and read through your own work to make sure it all makes sense. Remember our thoughts on direct speech….try not to use it as it can become a bit confusing for the reader.
Reading
We would like you to continue reading your own novels at home but we have kept the websites with some excellent varied topics to read about. Choose at least two website links below just in case you didn’t manage to read all of the articles. Again, see if you can challenge yourself to read at least 5 more articles this week.
Website Reading Links – Week 4
We hope you all have a great week.
