Hello parents, carers and pupils,
We hope that this finds you all well and that you are managing to settle into some kind of new ‘normal’ routine. It appears that home learning will be continuing for the foreseeable future and with this in mind, we are continuing to prepare a range of activities to support you at home. Please remember this is only a guide and our message is to do what you can, when you can. There is no expectation to complete all the activities as we are fully aware that everybody’s circumstances are different during these challenging times.
Conservation
The tiger toolkit provides a resource guide and six activities around this iconic species, the threats they face, and what we can do to protect tigers for generations to come. Please choose at least one activity to complete.
Writing
Writing this week is to write a Letter to Mrs Dyer and Mrs Stewart about your Easter holidays. Don’t forget to practise your handwriting. Make your letter even more interesting by challenging yourself to make your sentences longer by using connectives such as even though, because, and, moreover, also, so, as well as, but, furthermore, later.
Maths
This week we will continue to focus on our mental maths skills. A P3/4DS Challenge has been set up on Sumdog to practise your maths skills. Answer the questions correctly to earn coins! A mixed tables Challenge has also been created to develop your knowledge and recall of your times tables. If you do not have access to your Sumdog username and password, please contact us via twitter email or by emailing the school. Additional games will also be added to Heinemann Active Maths to practise the four operations (+, -, x and ÷).
This week we would also like you to design a board game that will help others to practise their mental maths skills (+, -, x and ÷). You can base this on a familiar game such as Snakes and Ladders, Connect Four or Monopoly. Write a list of rules for your game. When completed play your game with a family member.
Health and Wellbeing
Our new normality can sometimes be difficult. We may be missing our friends, school, social clubs and outdoor activities and may feel a range of different emotions each day. To stay positive, we would like you to focus on what you and your family would like to do in the future. We would like you to create a wish jar. You can decorate it with any craft or recycling materials you have at home (an empty glass jar would work well). Write the things you would like to do or are looking forward to when lockdown ends on paper/ post its and place them inside the jar. e.g. visit a family member, play at the beach, play a game of football with my friends, go to Landmark etc. Encourage all family members to take part. You can share your jars on twitter. We would love to see your ideas!
If you do not have access to art and craft materials you can draw a picture from one of your windows or a spot within your garden. What details can you show in your drawing? Can you see any signs of Spring? Think about what you can hear, see and smell. Try to relax and enjoy being in the moment.
Reading
Choose a book of your choice from home to read. Who are the main characters of the book? If you could meet them and ask them something, what would you ask? What do you think they would say? Draw a picture of the main characters and write a detailed description of them.
We will be keeping in touch via our twitter page throughout the week. Please feel free to post pictures of what you are doing and share how your home learning tasks are progressing. If you need help, please contact us via twitter or the school office email address.
We hope you have a great week.
From Mrs Dyer and Mrs Stewart
