Hello parents, carers and pupils,
We cannot believe that another week has passed and we hope that everyone is keeping safe and well. Thank you to everyone who has been communicating with us via Glow email, Twitter and MS Teams. We have a short week this week as there are in-service days on Thursday and Friday so we have slightly less work for you to do. But please remember this is only a guide and our message is to do what you can, when you can. There is no expectation to complete all the activities as we are fully aware that everybody’s circumstances are different during these challenging times.
Conservation
This is a really good website to look at. It has a lot of information about endangered species, fact files, links to quizzes and other online activities. Choose an endangered animal and see how much research you can find about them. Then make an information booklet to share with the class. Remember to make it colourful and add your own drawings.

Maths
Countdown
A fun way to practise mental maths and problem-solving skills is to play a game of Countdown. Pupils can practise all four mathematical operations by playing by themselves or challenging someone else to get to (or as close to) the target number first. This game is easily adaptable for all ability levels within the class.
You will need:
- 4 ‘large number’ cards with the numbers 25, 50, 75 and 100 on them
- A set of cards with the digits 1-10 on them, with at least two cards for each number
These can be made from any paper you have available at home.
Easy to follow instructions for Countdown are explained in the following link.
Sumdog
We have had many more of our class join us on Sumdog this week with 13 pupils completing the Mixed Maths Challenge. This week we have created a maths quiz for you to complete which covers many of the areas we have explored this academic year. Remember to keep practising your times tables through playing games on Sumdog and Heinemann Active Maths.
Writing
Lots of people like lots of different things, some people like reading (other’s don’t), some people like rugby and sport, or music and dance. The things you enjoy or don’t enjoy makes you special and unique. This week we would like you to write about the things you enjoy and what you might want to be when you are older based on your skills and interests. Remember to include words such as because, although and perhaps to make your sentences more interesting.
Reading
For reading this week we would like you to find a novel and read one chapter of it. It can be any book of your choice. After you have read a chapter, we would like you to make a list of words that you can find with:
- 3 syllables
- 4 syllables
- 5 syllables
Can you find any words that have more than 5 syllables?
Health and Wellbeing
Listening to music can make you feel many different emotions and can bring back memories from times when you have been happy and sad. This week we would like you to create your own playlist of 5 upbeat songs that make you feel happy and energised. Create a poster to share your playlist and decorate it with drawings of happier times. Remember to write the name of the song, the recording artist and the year it was released. Enjoy listening to your playlist. Share your playlist with your family and see if they can create and share their own playlist with you. Why not post your playlist on MS Teams or our class Twitter page? We would love to see what music you enjoy listening to.
Microsoft Teams
We enjoyed talking to many of you during our MS Team Meeting last Tuesday. We will be holding another meeting on Tuesday at 10am and hope you can all join us again. If you have not joined our MS Teams page, please follow the instructions in the link below.

We have also added a Class Chat button on our MS Teams page where you can chat online to other classmates in a safe, online environment. Please read the rules before ‘chatting’ and ensure that all comments are kind and friendly.
