Home Learning Activities – Week Beginning 13th April 2020

Hello parents, carers and pupils of P3/4 DS. We hope you have all had a good holiday under the current circumstances. Please find attached some learning activities for this week. Again, as stressed in our previous post, these are only suggested activities and we do not expect all activities to be completed in a given timescale.

Conservation Topic – Pollution

Please click on some of the links below to find interesting websites related to pollution. Pupils can complete at least one of the activities.

Maths

This week we would like children to focus on developing their knowledge and fluency of times tables.  Children can also practise writing their multiplication facts as division facts e.g. 5×4 = 20 so 20 ÷ 4 = 5. We have included a couple of fun Easter worksheets to practise times tables.

Games, such as Topmarks ‘Hit the Button’ will help children recall facts quickly as well as practise number bonds, halves, doubles and division facts. Topmarks ‘The Mental Maths Train’ will help children practise mental maths skills across the four operations (+, -, X and ÷).

Writing

Title: Up Helly Aa

At the end of last term our class were lucky to have a visit from Mr Cooper who attended Up Helly Aa in Shetland. He brought in his costume and gave us a talk about this famous Viking festival. Our suggested writing activity is for children to write your own thank you letter to Mr Cooper. Pupils can thank him for the talk and also tell him what their favourite part of his costume was. They can also tell Mr Cooper what they have learned about The Vikings from last term.…. Pupils can also design their own bright and colourful Viking costume for Up Helly Aa.

Health and Well-being

This week we would like pupils to keep moving  whether it is by taking part in Joe Wicks morning P.E. sessions, practising football skills, dancing or creating your own garden obstacle course! We would also like children to create a poster to show the importance of exercise  (see the attached PowerPoint slides). If pupils want to try something new, we have included links for Zumba Kids – fun dance routines for all the family!

Reading

Dictionary Words

A dictionary is a valuable learning tool, especially if you can make up your own booklet of words that are challenging.

What pupils will need:

Paper and pencils, a stapler, reading materials; books, old magazines, newspapers etc.,

 What to do:

Pupils can make a dictionary by putting together several sheets of paper for a booklet.  Write at the top of each page a new word that they have recently read. If the word can be shown in a picture, then they can draw it too.  Pupils should write the meaning of each word and create a sentence using each new word.

We both hope that you all are keeping well and are getting used to our new way of life at the moment.

Best wishes,

Mrs Dyer and Mrs Stewart
