Duck Race Results

Thank you to so many of you who sold and bought ducks again this year. We sold almost 1281 ducks raising a huge amout for PTA funds. The ducks made their way (slowly!) down the Mosset to the finish line.  Mrs Maclennan and Mrs MacIntosh got a bit wet but managed to catch them all before they disappeared under the bridge and headed to Findorn Bay!

The first duck home, winning £150 was bought by Amanda Fraser (sold by Sean Fraser 2F). Second place, winning £100 was bought by Marlena Wrobel  (sold by Victor Stockzowski 2E) and 3rd place winning £50 was bought by Cenedra Robb 6W. The very last duck in wins £25 and was bought by Ellie McLeod. Ben Ross won the PINZ voucher by selling an amazing 216 ducks.

Summer Fete

A huge well done to all who organised, helped to set up and run the Applegrove Summer Fete on Saturday. Despite a terrible forecast we were lucky that the rain held off during the two hours of the fete and we were able to get some of the games outside. The fete was a huge success and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The PTA are grateful to all families who came along to support the event. As well as  raising money for the school the Summer Fete is an opportunity for pupils and their families to get together as a school community and have some fun so this year we decided to offer some free activities for the kids. Lots of fun was had welly wanging, archery, throwing beanbags at teachers faces and pillow fighting! Thank you for your contributions to the bottle stall on the dress up day and for buying so many ducks to make the duck race a huge success, once again.

The Sumner fete could not have been such a success without the hard work of the PTA, parent helpers, teachers and pupils who organised and ran the stalls. Many thanks again and see you next year!

Applegrove Hockey Team Power to Victory

Kinloss Quasar Hockey Festival Sunday 7TH June 2015 – Applegrove’s hockey team, Dana McFarlane, Logan Stalker, Ben Cameron, Shay Ewing, Alice Reynolds, Ashley Donald and Isla Brain braved a very cold and wet Sunday morning to compete with 4 other teams at the Hockey Fesitval. With convincing wins over Quasar and Bishopmill 2, a hard fought contest against Bishopmill 1 ending in a 3-2 win and a 0-0 draw with Dyke they secured their place in the final against Dyke. Applegrove were triumphant scoring the only goal of the match and were delighted to pick up their gold medals and the trophy. A huge well done to you all . We are very proud of your resilience, motivation and  achievement .

If I Were Prime Minister I would…..

Our Global Citizen ship group was called “If I Were Prime Minister…”

We learned how parliament works, and just what a hard job a Prime Minister has.

We watched this video…

We thought that we needed a Prime Minister because they would lead the country and make it a better place.

We thought that a Prime Minister would look after the country and make choices for everybody.

We thought that it would be hard to get people to agree with your argument especially when you were trying to get voted in.

If we did not have a Prime Minister we worried that there would be no prices for food, no school, no army, energy would run low, the country would get poor, it would be  worse for global warming and there could be riots or huge fights in the street.

A Prime Minister would have to deal with Inequality, Injustice, Political Unrest, Global Poverty, Climate Change, and Sustainability!

We had a go at being Prime Minister and decided what we would do…

Below is a video showing just a few of our ideas.

Potted Sports Fun

Well done to everyone who braved the cold weather to take part in the Potted Sports – the sun shone in the end! A huge well done to all the teams. Your teachers have commented on your good behaviour and how well you supported each other and worked together. This is what our Potted Sports is all about!

The highest scoring team was Douglas B and Douglas were the winning house team. The results show just how close it was this year – you were all stars!

Douglas – 2815

Wallace   – 2771

Bruce –    2721

Stuart – 2680

Many thanks to all the parents and helpers who gave their time to make it such a good day. A special mention to Mrs McGregor, Mrs Hamilton and Mrs Finlayson who were in school by 7am to help  set up and to the P7s who came in at 8am to lend a hand!

Building Works Update

As you will probably already know extensive improvement works are planned to carried out on the school between July 2015 and March 2017. Fiona Grant, the Moray Council Resources Officer who is overseeing the works gave a presentation at Applegrove for Parents on Tuesday evening. Nick Goodchild, the Educational Resources Manager also came along and parents were given the chance to see how the poroposed changed would look and hear about how it will impact the children.

For any Parent who could not make the meeting, Fiona and Nick are giving another presentation on Thurday at 9am on Thursday in the School Hall. Please feel free to attend this and ask any questions you may have.

The planning application detailing the proposed work can be accessed on the Moray Council Planning Portal at the link below:
