Course Information
The Mathematics course for pupils in S1 and S2 is based on the Curriculum for Excellence outcomes.
Pupils will typically focus on 3rd Level outcomes in S1 with continued exposure and reinforcement of 2nd Level outcomes as required. From the beginning of S2, pupils will gain increased exposure to 4th level concepts.
We aim to create a stimulating learning experience for all pupils and therefore textbook exercises will be supplemented with other materials, additional worksheets, active learning activities and problem solving worksheets. The main textbook resources are the Tee-Jay books.
Placing of Pupils
Pupils will work in mixed ability classes in S1 and S2. Teachers use a range of differentiated resources to ensure every pupil is both challenged and supported.
In S3, classes are adjusted to reflect the qualification that pupils can expect to work towards in S4. Although there is an element of setting at this stage, classes remain mixed where possible.
Support for Learning
The support for Learning Department are deployed in 1st/2nd year classes in particular to work with pupils needing support in Mathematics.
Pupils with additional support needs are identified through the Support for Learning Department and information is communicated to class teachers. Readers, prompts and extra time are provided for those that require additional support for assessments.
