Eco Committee Phone Recycling Project

Last year our Eco Committee led by Mrs. Crawford took part in an initiative run by Promethean the people who make our interactive whiteboards. The aim was to collect enough old mobile phones to win a Promethean Active Expression2 voting system.

The pupils and parents collected a massive 250 phones which will be sent away for recyling so saving them from ending up as toxic waste in rubbish dumps. The BBC reckons that 85 million mobile phones have been thrown away are or are just lying about peoples’ houses instead of being recycled.

The voting system which we received provides each pupil with a handset with which they can respond to questions put up on the whiteboard. This allows all the children in the class to take an active part in the lesson.

P6/7 McMillan Coffee Morning

The children in Primary 6a and 7a organised a coffee morning in October in aid of MacMillan Cancer Charity. Each year, people all over the country take part in The World’s Biggest Coffee morning and the  children of Newark thought this would be a great opportunity for them to raise money. Miss Barr and Miss Munro were extremely proud of the children as they worked together carrying out their roles. Parents, grandparents, and  friends were invited to come along and they had a great turnout on the day. In total the children raised an amazing £940.
