Biggies Spring Watch

Last Wednesday we went down to Andrew Dows wood to see the different things about spring there were loads of animals and nature. Mr and Mrs Carter took us because they knew a lot more than we know about nature and animals. There was much to learn, about loads of parts in the woods. We learned about some birds and we heard more than we saw.

Emma

Insects
The insects we saw, there were butterflies. One species was orange tip.  the difference between then are the males have the little bronze bit at the tip of their wings and the females have a light green bit under their wings. We saw dancing midges that do not bite but other midges will bite. We saw bees getting pollen.

Aaliyah

We saw yellow gorse bush and it smelled like coconuts.
We also saw bluebells and butter cups and a king cup which is bigger than a butter cup and grows in the marsh.
We also saw violets and lots of lovely beeees!!!!!!
Collecting pollen and nectar. We saw cherry blossom.

Trees
We saw a tree that was giant it was in school woods. We got three people to stand around the tree and link arms and measure how long our arms together would be together and it came to about 5 meters. We then put our arm 45 degrees until it looked like we touched the top of the tree then we took about meter steps and how many steps we took it would be the height of the tree and we got 25 so the tree is about 25 meters high. It grows 2 cm a year. The trees we saw were beech trees, birch trees, Rowen trees , hawthorn trees and blossoming trees.

Zara & Islay

Birds
We heard loads of birds even some from Africa like the blackcap and chiffchaff. The reason why the blackcap is called this name is because it has Markings on its face like a blackcap on your head and it is the same with the chiffchaff it is called the chiffchaff because they make a noise that says chiffchaff. There was also a buzzard flying over the area scanning it for prey to eat. We also heard a great tit saying teacher.

Jennifer and John’s Lambing Shed

This morning we walked down to see the ewes and lambs in Jennifer and John’s lambing shed; they have been very busy for the last few nights as there have been ewes they have had to help lamb and a lot of twins! These lambs were born during the night or this morning. On the walk back to school we saw a ewe which had just given birth to twins in the park.

Scenes From Tam O’Shanter

 

Here is some of the children’s writing about the making of the movie, All 10 of the p6 & 7s were involved. 

We made an animation of Tam o Shanter to help us learn about the poem.

We went into twos and read the story to think how we will do it. then we made background scenes and characters and put them together to make an animation using LEGO movie.

We split in to pairs and got given a different part of the poem. We had to make backgrounds. Then we had to draw characters like horses and tam and witches and The other characters. We had to say text from the poem during the animation. We put the backgrounds down and made the characters move on them. We made it on LEGO movie. Then put it into iMovie. We had to speak over it and add sound affects.

We started off by reading the text, then we got split up into partners so we could do it together. We got different scenes for the animation. We had to draw the backgrounds whatever the scenes were. We needed extra characters and the main people were tam and his horse.

Then we had to do the animation and we used the App lego movie to make the animation and we had to get the 1st background which was the church and we had to get the witches as well. We had to make it look like the witches were coming out of the church on their broomsticks. And we had to take a picture using the lego movie app then we moved the characters and took another picture and kept on repeating that until all the witches were out of the church. For the 2nd scene we had to get the Forrest background and we had to get Tam on the horse and the witches were chasing him and they were trying to rip the horses tale off. Then we went onto the last Scene and it was the forrest with the bridge in it and during that one we got a black background and had the back off the horse and the hand ripping off the tale. Then we went into Imovie and recorded the voice recordings and the sound effects.

Then we started to do the animation and we made it in the lego movie app. We had to make them move, dance and walk, some were falling over and some were having a good laugh in the pub. Then we exported it into iMovie and put different sound effects and songs in to it. Whilst when you could record your voice you had to go somewhere quiet. We had to pick up any credits that were needed from free sound.

Next we sat our iPads on a stand and recorded animations by taking photos in the lego movie app and made separate movies for each scene.

We both thought it was quite hard and fun there was difficulties with the background sounds so it would’ve been better if we were in a very quite room .

It was quite fun doing the animation because you would move the characters around and we made some jokes. Now we have made it in to one big movie and it looks good. 😀😃😍😻🎬🖥🎞

We thought it ended ok. Some people added some funny things. We had to make some people’s voices louder . One problem was that people didn’t know how to record and we had to cut some parts. We had to make sure that the voices weren’t to quiet and that the sound affects were too loud over the voices. We then put them all together and it was one big animation and it turned out good. Some people forgot where they got the sound effects from.

I thought that making the movie was fun and that we should do more things like that.

We all liked it because it was something different.
