Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP)

The implementation of Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) in our secondary schools uses a peer education model to enable young people in years S4+ to lead learning with young people in S1-S3 with a focus on bystander intervention. The aim in session 2018-2019 was to build capacity in school-based staff support teams, supplemented by Senior Phase and Youth Employment colleagues and Education Officers, through specialist Mentor Supporter training from the MVP Development Team. Session 2019-2020 sees our secondary schools training their S4+ mentor teams to lead learning with S1-S3.

At its heart, the MVP programme is to designed to empower young people to challenge societal pressures to conform to gender stereotypes, emotions and behaviours.
