Acorn room 16/08/21

Our little acorns have had another very busy week.

Some children have took a keen interest in numbers, practicing our counting and fine motor skills hunting in the felt. Staff will continue to encourage this through everyday provocations!

Others have been very busy builders this week. We have built many castles and towers, some even taller than ourselves! Can you build any towers at home?

“Old MadDonald” is a huge hit in the acorn room! We set up a small farm area where the children encouraged conversations between peers, role play and even recognising  many different animal sounds!

Hope you all have a great weekend ☺️!

This week the children have been designing our alphabet wall. They have using different materials to create all the letters.  We have also been sign the alphabet song 🎼🎤

The children have also been doing some experimenting with different ingredients to make a volcano eruption. The children have been measuring the ingredients out and reading the instructions. 🌋🌋

Pirates 16/08/21

This week in the expressive area we have shown an interest in pirates! CM came over to me and asked if he could make a pirate hat! We then started discussing what else pirates might have. The children agreed a pirate needs a pirate ship and a pirate map so we set out some materials to create these.

We used teabags and water to create our own pirate map and drew the route for our pirates to go to collect the treasure.

We used different sized boxes and other recycled materials to make our own pirate ships. What do you think?

Developing our senses 🍋🍊

This week in the village we have been continuing to explore our sense of touch. We have been using the feely tubs to explore different textures without using our sense of sight. We explored a variety of different materials all with different textures including crazy soap foam, slime and cotton wool.

This week we have been exploring our sense of taste. We explored spicy, sweet, sour and salty foods. We discussed what each food tasted like and how our bodies reacted to some of the foods, particularly when the lemon and limes made us pull funny faces.

Group boxes 19/08/21

We have been looking at the different groups we have in the nursery. Together we are creating boxes for each group to explore and understand their tree. We have covered the boxes in paper using our fine motor skills and writing the group names using our literacy skills.

Building a bridge 16/08/21

This week in the construction Area we have been focusing on Architecture and famous landmarks. I created the architecture wall and asked the children which buildings they wanted to recreate first. They chose the atomium and the Eiffel Tower. We spoke about all the different buildings and whereabouts In the world they were situated. I also asked if any of them could name the buildings and some of the children successfully named them. The used different materials to build and recreate the buildings for example, playdough & wood sticks and a variety of 2d and 3D building blocks.

The expressive room 9/08/21

This week in the expressive area we have been developing our fine motor and mark making skills using different materials to write on and different tools to write with.

We froze paint and used the frozen paint cubes to make marks on paper. The children were interested in mixing the colours together to make new colours and watching the ice melt around the paper, turning back into coloured water.

We then thought about what other materials we could write on. We wrapped clingfilm around the table legs and coloured it in using paint. We painted our hands and printed them on the clingfilm. “It’s so stretchy”

We used cotton buds to draw patterns on the tinfoil “it’s so shiny” “it’s like the sea”

We also painted bubble wrap and printed it on to paper to see the patterns it makes.

Baking Scones for baking week 02/08/21

This week has been baking week at nursery, the children have been talking about what they bake with mummy and daddy in the house and have been exploring different ingredients for they’re recipes.  We made scones and the start of the week then blinis at the end…….the children enjoyed eating both!

Expressive room 02/08/21

This week in the 3-5 room we were, working on letter matching, letter recognition and name recognition. The children were looking to find there own name and then finding the matching lollipop sticks with the letters on it to match the name tag.

After observing the children this week the children have been making each other snacks and drinks in the kitchen area, so we changed the kitchen area into Oakburn Cafe and they have been using the till, the children made their money to put in the till for the cafe. We have been recognising numbers on the money and learning to understand the value of money. 💷💰

Following on from the children making their own money, we then have been using hand-eye coordination and scissor skills to cut out the money so it can be put in the till. The children have been engrossed and have been imaginative playing in our cafe area.💷💰
