Rainy day play

I must admit that a really rainy day does not often fill my heart with joy – but the last day of term was an exception to the rule.  Our children love outdoor play in any weather and rain offers a highly sensory play experience.  There is huge fun to be had jumping into puddles, individually and en masse!  The pond is full of water and there are tadpoles and water beetles to watch and ripples on the surface where the rain drops fall.  The mud kitchen is SUPER MUDDY and all sorts of muddy delights can be created and shared with friends-dish of the day today?  Poo Stew!   Today the boys climbed into the mud pit and squelched about with great glee.   Children laugh a lot when it rains as splashing usually impacts on other people.  The trees are too slippy to climb today, but resourceful wee people find walls and railings to scale.  The rain changes the things we play, and gives us scope to try different experiences that don’t exist on a dry day.  The suits are on, but mud and water always find a way, and when we go in all of us are a bit soggy, but very happy.  I’m actually looking forward to our next really wet day!
