A Case Study of Internet Safety – From School to Local Authority

This workshop will describe how a school programme on Internet Safety gradually developed into an Authority wide project. It will describe the main elements of the school’s programme and explain how it was rolled out to all schools involving the training of around 400 staff. There will be opportunities for questions and discussion on how such a process might be applied in different settings.

This workshop will describe the qualifications available in Scotland (and the UK) relating to Internet safety and online child protection. It will focus on two specific awards: (1) the Internet Safety qualification, designed for young people at school to learn how to use the Internet safely; and (2) the Professional Development Award in Online Protection & Safeguarding of Children, designed for professionals who work with children. The workshop will describe the contents of these qualifications, the target groups, the support materials available to centre’s, and how to get your centre involved in their delivery or undertake them yourself.
