Catriona Laing

Catriona Laing is a Principal Teacher of Guidance, Child Protection Officer and Head of House at Perth High School.  She started her career within the primary sector, where she worked for fourteen years, latterly within support for learning.  A move into secondary school within pupil support led to her being appointed to a full-time Guidance position in June 2009.

Catriona’s Internet Safety work began after she attended a CEOP Thinkuknow training session in December 2007.  After completing Ambassador training, she planned and coordinated the introduction of an Internet Safety Programme into the PSE curriculum within Perth High School.  This work was recognised within Perth and Kinross Council and Catriona then worked as part of a small focus group planning an authority-wide project to ensure that Internet Safety was included within the curriculum of all primary and secondary schools.  Such was the success of this project that it was awarded the Provost’s Award at the 2010 Perth and Kinross Council Securing the Future Awards.

As a result of her work within Perth High School, Catriona was selected by CEOP as the UK teacher representative at the European Safer Internet Forum in Luxembourg in October 2009.  She is also a member of CEOP’s Education Advisory Board.

Outside school, Catriona has been a member of Perth and Kinross Children’s Panel for twelve years and has been involved with the appointment and training of new panel members for over half of that time.
