RME: Belief in Dialogue
The Scottish Government (with support from the Scottish Inter-faith Council has recently published “Belief in Dialogue” – this resource aims to provide guidance on interfaith dialogue and best practice when dealing with faith groups.
RME and RERC Provision in Schools
The Scottish Government has recently published new guidance on delivery of RME within all schools in Scotland. This guidance highlights the continuing statutory nature of RME and that it should be a core subject from 3-18 including delivery in S5 and S6. It also talks about the need for specialist subject teachers and how RME can contribute to IDL but should not be delivered entirely through IDL.
Literacy in the Outdoors
Alison Hammerton and Grant Gillies worked together on a Literacy in the Outdoors day recently for the cluster ASG at Grantown on Spey. It was a really successful day and the activities all highlighted the opportunities for teaching Literacy in the Oudoors.
Young people, alcohol and influences
This report presents the findings from a major study of young people and their relationship with alcohol, and explores the wide range of influences on their drinking.
Sustainability and Leadership – Community Regio Project at Bucksburn Academy
Pupils from Bucksburn Academy engaged in a number of environmental project driven by senior students in liaison with a number of local agencies and organisations such as National Heritage Scotland and Aker Solutions. This inspirational initiative, part of a Comenius Regio Project linking with schools as far afield as Italy on the topic of sustainability, provided pupils with valuable experiences in improving their local environment by cultivation their school grounds, building bird and bat boxes and preparing access to a local woodland area. The involvement in this project gained students significant leadership skills as well John Muir awards. Perth Grammar showcase Eco Schools work on BBC Radio
In a recent episode of the BBC Radio Scotland show, ‘Out of doors’, pupils from Perth Grammar and their Depute Headteacher, Michael Conlon, talk about achieving their second Eco Schools Green Flag and how this work links to the school motto: Pride, Respect, Ambition.

ASH Scotland Survey
Scoping the training needs of those working with young people to deliver effective tobacco awareness trainingASH Scotland aim to significantly reduce the rate of smoking by young people as part of their five year strategy. The their youth development work, ASH Scotland want to equip those working with young people with resources and skills to effectively incorporate tobacco awareness-raising into practice and contribute to smoking prevention. ASH Scotland are now in the process of conducting a Training Needs Analysis to explore: TO what extent there is a need for training for those working directly with young people to help them incorporate effective tobacco awareness-raising into practice. The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. You participation will help to scope specific needs of those working with young people and build recommendations to inform future developments. The closing date for responses for this survey is Friday 22 July 2011. |
Scottish Green Awards 2011
The Scottish Green Awards, created by Scottish Business Insider in association with Scottish Power, take place on Thursday 29 September 2011 at the Glasgow Science Centre.
The Scottish Green Awards will celebrate the achievements and initiatives of both corporate organisations and individuals who work to reduce carbon emissions.
The 2011 Award Categories are:
- Best Green SME;
- Best Green Large Company;
- Best Green Community Initiative;
- Best Green Campaigner/Activist;
- Best Young Person Campaigner/Activist;
- Best Green School;
- Best Green Public Service or Public Sector Provision;
- Best Green PR Campaign;
- Outstanding Contribution to the Scottish Environment.
The deadline for applications is Friday 29 July 2011.
