Curriculum for Excellence 3-18 at Corpus Christi Primary School
The Curriculum for Excellence is a dynamic educational framework designed to elevate learning and teaching standards for students aged 3 to 18. It seeks to equip children and young people with the knowledge and skills they need in our ever-evolving world. At Corpus Christi Primary School, we wholeheartedly embrace the principles of Curriculum for Excellence, fostering a holistic educational experience that extends beyond the confines of traditional classrooms.
Broad General Education (BGE): As part of Curriculum for Excellence, all students from preschool to the end of S3 embark on a well-rounded educational journey known as a Broad General Education (BGE). We’re dedicated to making learning come alive by infusing real-life experiences into our curriculum.
Through our educational programs and activities, we are committed to nurturing students who embody the qualities of Successful Learners, Confident Individuals, Responsible Citizens, and Effective Contributors. To achieve these goals, we focus on eight essential curriculum areas:
- Expressive Arts: The arts inspire creativity and empower students to develop their artistic talents.
- Health & Well-being: Learning in this domain equips students with essential knowledge, understanding, and skills for their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being.
- Languages: In a global society, proficiency in languages and an appreciation of diverse cultures are crucial skills.
- Mathematics: Mathematics equips students with problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
- Religious & Moral Education: We explore Christianity, Islam, and other world religions, promoting the development of beliefs and values.
- Sciences: Science and its practical application in healthcare and industry are central to our economic future, for our health and well-being as individuals and as a society.
- Social Sciences: Students develop a broader understanding of the world, encompassing the past and present, societies, beliefs, and values.
- Technologies: Our technological education offerings have evolved to include craft, design, engineering, and graphics, preparing students for the modern world.
Progression: Progress in learning is measured through curriculum levels, classified as Early, First, Second, and Third/Fourth stages, depending on the student’s age and development.
Throughout the year, we extend invitations to parents and carers to engage with and learn more about various aspects of our curriculum. Your input and insights are highly valued, and we welcome your participation in shaping the educational journey of our students. Together, we strive for excellence in education and the holistic development of every child in our care.
