Becoming a Rights Respecting School: Empowering Our Future Leaders

We are thrilled to announce that Corpus Christi is on a trans-formative journey to become a Rights Respecting School, and we have recently achieved the prestigious Bronze level award. This journey represents a significant milestone in our commitment to nurturing compassionate, responsible, and empowered global citizens.

What Is a Rights Respecting School?

A Rights Respecting School is a learning community that embraces the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). This groundbreaking international treaty recognises the inherent rights and dignity of every child, setting the foundation for their well-being, development, and participation in society.

Why Is It Important for Our School?

  • Fostering Empathy: By instilling a deep understanding of children’s rights in our students, we nurture empathy and respect for one another, promoting a positive and inclusive school culture.
  • Global Citizenship: Rights Respecting Schools empower students to become global citizens who are aware of their responsibilities in a diverse and interconnected world.
  • Child-Centred Education: Our commitment to children’s rights ensures that every decision, policy, and practice within our school priorities the best interests of the child.
  • Empowering Students: Through education on their rights, our students become advocates for change, empowered to voice their opinions, make informed decisions, and contribute to a just and equitable society.

This Month’s Focus: Nurturing Our Rights to Learn, Inform, and Play

At Corpus Christi, we’re dedicated to embracing and promoting the fundamental rights that foster a holistic development for our students. This month, we spotlight three pivotal articles that are at the heart of our educational ethos: Articles 29, 17, and 31.

Article 29 – The Right to Holistic Education: We believe in an education that goes beyond academics. It’s about nurturing the individuality of each student, encouraging respect for others, and fostering a deep connection with the environment. Our curriculum and school activities are designed to develop every aspect of our students’ personalities, preparing them to be thoughtful, responsible global citizens.

Article 17 – The Right to Access Safe Information: In today’s digital age, access to information is vast and varied. We commit to guiding our students through the complex landscape of media, ensuring they can safely and effectively gather the information they need. Our educational resources and programs support critical thinking and digital literacy, empowering our students to make informed decisions and understand the world around them.

Article 31 – The Right to Play and Rest: We recognise the importance of balance. The right to relax and play is fundamental in supporting our students’ mental and physical well-being. Through sports, arts, and leisure activities, we provide ample opportunities for students to enjoy their right to play, fostering creativity, relaxation, and a sense of community.

We’re not just teaching for today; we’re nurturing the leaders, thinkers, and creators of tomorrow. Join us this month as we celebrate and integrate these rights into our daily learning and living, ensuring every student can achieve their full potential.

We invite you to join us on this inspiring journey as we strive to create a school community where every child’s rights are respected, protected, and fulfilled. Together, we are shaping a brighter and more just future for our students and the world they will inherit.
