The Cultural Competency tool has been developed by Trainee Educational Psychologists in collaboration with peers and practitioners at all stages of the training journey.

It is designed to support all educational psychologists, whatever stage they are at in their careers, in reflecting on and enhancing their cultural competence. By encouraging self-awareness and critical reflection, the tool aims to empower users to explore their practice, across all areas of their work (including the five core functions). Thus, helping to identify strengths and pinpoint areas for growth.

A second resource has also been created to support wider professionals within education. This resource aligns to the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) Professional Standards. These standards emphasise the importance of social justice, trust, respect and integrity as central to the teaching profession in Scotland. By aligning with these standards, the tool supports education staff in fostering an inclusive and equitable environment that respects and values diversity.
