Nativity Play Songs

Several afternoons of my placement were spent in rehearsal for the nativity play. I have quite a bit of experience teaching traditional carols and hymns to P4-7 pupils. It was therefore interesting to see the use of a nativity play with songs which could be easily learned by P1-3 pupils who have not yet developed the same reading and vocab skills as the upper school. These songs were very age appropriate and allowed lots of actions to be incorporated. I was impressed to see that the class teachers worked with pupils, who suggested which actions should accompany words and phrases in the songs. This combination of words and actions really seemed to help young learners to remember the lyrics well and perform them effectively.
