Placement Reflection

Reflecting back on my fortnight’s placement, I think the strengths I brought to it were personal and professional ones from past life experience.  I was able to present a strong and confident image, was always well dressed and on time, had high standards of language and subject knowledge and kept a positive and enthusiastic attitude to all aspects of school life throughout the placement. In my work with P2/3 in particular, I was able to develop experience with younger pupils which was extremely helpful, my past experience mainly being with P4-7. It was useful to appreciate learning styles and abilities at these ages. The placement also brought to me a realisation about class control and discipline, especially the need to strive always to keep pupils on track and free of distraction in their learning. Both my peer observation task and teacher evaluation brought forward the need to develop my abilities when working with larger groups of children, and the various aspects involved with doing this effectively. Tone and voice whilst presenting at the board, managing pupils and sustaining their attention and using body language effectively. I look forward to getting more practice in this area in my next placement, and eventually work towards whole class teaching.
