DYW Playroom – P1C

This week in our playroom the children have been exploring our Developing the Young Workforce topic and experiencing a range of different jobs through exploration and role play. The children have engaged so well in all of the play experiences provided and have used their creativity and imagination to create new roles within their play.

We continue this learning within our writing lessons this week. The children were asked ‘What do you want to be when you grow up’. Everyone was able to say what they wanted to be and give a reason for this choice.

Well done P1C for another very successful week of learning!

P6B go to Pinkston!

P6B went to Pinkston Water Sports on Wednesday. We went into the local woodlands and learned all about appreciated our green spaces within Glasgow. We created art using leaves and sticks, went on a bug hunt, and completed some team challenges. We did especially well in the team challenges and our instructor was impressed with our teamwork!

Afterwards, we went canoeing in the man-made canal! We had to work together to make the large canoe move against the strong winds. At the end we all had a race in the canoes and got to jump in the canal!

It was a fantastic day and now we cannot wait for next week!

P5a’s week

This week in p5a we have been working hard in maths on data handling, recording information on frequency charts and presenting  information in a bar chart. We have been very good at this! We also created some fabulous posters all about probability. In Writing we completed our block on Explanations. In Creative enquiry we continued our Construction theme, where we have shown great imagination and teamwork skills. In topic this week we have been exploring creatures in the different layers of the Ocean and also used this as inspiration for our art work. Hopefully we will finish these next week.

P2a

This week in P2a we have been looking at the world of work.

In class we watched some videos on jobs and learned about a lot of jobs we didn’t know about. We had some good discussions about what we’d like to be when we’re older then we done some writing on it.

In the playroom we had lots of stations with different jobs, the class showed they would be amazing construction workers, author/illustrators, florists, teachers and cafe workers.

World of Work

It as been another very busy week in Primary 1.

In the playroom we have been focused on the world of work and developing the young workforce.

Children have had the opportunity to participate in different job roles such as construction workers, florists, gardeners and running a cafe, and many more more.

In addition to this, some children have been eager to share their solo talks about their favourite animal. Some amazing posters have been brought and fantastic facts have been shared.

On Monday, we had a visit from the football coach from the Brunswick Centre who was teaching us lots of ball skills. We were dribbling and running and learning to control the ball.

We have learned that flamingos stand on one leg, penguins are fluffy when they are born, cats have pink paws and the name Singh means lion in Punjabi. So we have been able to learn a word from other languages too. The children have been very excited, well organised with fabulous posters and confident as they have spoken to the whole class to share facts and the reason why the animal is their favourite.

We can’t wait to see and hear about everyone else’s favourite animal next week.

P1b weekly update

This week primary 1b were learning about the World of work  we explored different job roles through play and discussed the skills each job requires.

Writing had them creating instructions for cleaning their teeth. They began by drawing pictures to demonstrate the actions and followed this by writing a sentence to explain what to do. Everyone should now have lovely clean teeth. We also read ‘Finns Little Fibb’ and identified the beginning, middle and end of the story.

We continued to learn about our emotions and were able to assign colours to a variety of emotions such as yellow for happy, blue for sad and green for jealous. We used the story Elmer, about a patchwork elephant, as inspiration and used some of the colours we discussed to create our own animals and jungle picture.

A fantastic week of learning in p1b 💫💫

Pinkston Basin Day 1

On Tuesday we had the first of our visits to Pinkston Basin to participate in activities for three awards:  The NOLA (National Outdoor Learning Award), Glasgow Urban Adventure Award and a Watersports award.  It was a bit of all four seasons in one day but that didn’t stop us from participating and having a great time.  Half of the day was spent on the water in canoes and the other half was exploring the forest. We are looking forward to Days 2 and 3.

Our Eco Action Plan 2024 – 26

After being awarded our Eco Schools Green Flag last June the eco committee have  worked hard to develop a new action plan to take our efforts even further.  This is a two year plan and as a school we have already achieved a lot thanks to many of our wonderful pupil committees. On our new action plan we are focussing on –

Climate Action – Encouraging the use of sustainable transport and recycling.

Biodiversity – Improving our biodiversity knowledge and why it is important. As well as trying to encourage different birds and insects to our school grounds.

Global Citizenship – Taking an active role in the local community and raising awareness of global issues.

These actions all contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.  Our focus will be on Goal 15: Life on Land.
