P3 Playground Litter Pick

As part of our whole school Eco Action Plan, P3 were given the aim to improve the environmental quality of the school. Last Friday both P3a and P3b worked as a team to pick up all the litter in our playground. The children had a brilliant time using the litter pickers and working together. Afterwards the children created their own posters to encourage others to keep our school litter free and help us achieve our aim.

Listen Up! Anti-Bullying Week – P3a

For our health and well-being lessons we have been focusing on anti-bullying. The children discussed what bullying meant to them and we explored different bullying scenarios and ways to resolve these. The children worked in small groups using drama to improvise the different scenarios. We then created freeze frames for each of our scenes to explore the story and resolutions. The children did a fantastic job using drama to explore this issue.

Authors Live BBC Scotland – P3a

Today the children took part in a live lesson with author and illustrator Benji Davies. The lesson was run through Scottish Book Trust in partnership with BBC Scotland. The children listened to Benji Davies read his much loved book ‘The Great Storm Whale’. He then asked the children to become illustrators and showed us how to draw some of his well known characters. I think we might have some future illustrators in our class!

Book Week Scotland – P3a

P3a have been busy for Book Week Scotland. Inspired by the story of Little Red Riding Hood the children retold this traditional tale by creating their own movies on the iPads using the iMovie app. They loved taking on different roles including director, camera operator, and actor. They collaborated and we loved watching the finished films! Ask us about some of the camera angles we were learning about.

The children also created their own monsters and turned them into comic strips on Book Creator. We can’t wait to write character descriptions about our own monsters for our writing lesson soon.

We were also very lucky to get to visit the community library, everybody got to select their own book which we will be reading in class. The children were very responsible on the walk to and from the library and represented WWP well. Well done P3a!

Thank You!!

This lovely P3 boy has very generously donated his old building blocks to our school, for his younger peers in P1 and P2 to use. Thank you so much R for such a kind and thoughtful gift!

Money – P3a

It was Financial Education Week last week. The children took part it lots of different learning activities using money. They were recognising and skip counting coins; adding money to create different amounts; estimating costs and using magazines to total costs. We had lots of fun with our active learning.

Growth Mindset -P3a

We ended this weeks learning with a Health and Well-being lesson focused on Growth Mindset. The children learned about the differences between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset . We worked together to highlight the  positive growth mindset statements. The children then created their own fixed mindset statements then used their learning to turn them into positive statements. The children especially loved getting to write their statements on the desks!

SPOOK-tacular Artwork – P3a

The children celebrated Halloween with lots of spooky learning today. They especially enjoyed creating their amazing ‘Mummy Eyes’ artwork. They used oil pastels and selected complimenting colours to create these bright and glaring eyes. These will look fantastic on our classroom walls, well done P3a!
