This Week in P7a

This week we completed our abstract self portraits and reflected on how the colours represent our own personalities.

We’ve explored BSL (British Sign Language) in the creative enquiry room.

We were all successful in our transformation assessment and developed settings for our upcoming short stories.

This week we’ve been focusing on collating data and displaying it using a range of graphs.

We’ve made a real effort to develop our communication skills through team games, by giving encouragement and constructive criticism.

We created detailed character profiles to be used in our upcoming short stories.

This week we’ve been learning about co-ordinates in 4 quadrants, and using this information to create pictures of beloved Disney characters. As well as this we developed our understanding of probability.

To continue in our artistic vein, we created abstract self portraits using our learning about line, colour and shade.

As part of our P.A.T.H.S course we’ve been finding “win win” solutions to conflict resolution scenarios.

This week we’ve been absolutely nailing procedural writing, creating detailed sets of instructions for games and recipes.

Our golf game continues to improve, and we’re now capable of playing short rounds over longer distances.

In numeracy we’ve been using protractors to accurately measure angles, and draw triangles from given specifications.

This week we’ve been taking a lot of learning outdoors: working on our golf game at the pitch, and calculating speed, distance and time in the playground.

We successfully used S = D/T to calculate our speeds over a series of distances. We also applied this knowledge to a range of activities in the classroom.

This week P7a have been getting into the  festive spirit, by completing some Christmas STEM challenges.

In numeracy we’ve consolidated our understanding of volume, by using V =L x W x H, and using algebra to solve problems involving unknown measurements.

We’ve collaborated well in our reciprocal reading groups, and our developing our inference, summary and visualisation skills.

P7a were chosen to demonstrate the use of our creative enquiry room to a very special visitor this week. They participated in a range of STEM activities exploring different changes that take place in our environment.

P7a have been working hard all week on their Scottish National Standardised Assessments (S.N.S.A). We’ve also developed our understanding of long division, planning a creative piece of writing and improving our swimming and badminton skills.

This week we’ve been working incredibly hard in numeracy; using the order of operations (B.O.D.M.A.S) to solve problems involving more than one operation.

We’ve been chasing away the January blues with some inspired performances for our Burn’s showcase. P7a have been working tirelessly to learn their lines, songs and stage directions.

The weather hasn’t been great, but we’ve been very mature and sensible when hiding inside from the rain.
