An Exciting First Week Back for P4a

After a well deserved Easter break P4 had an exciting first week back as we had a visit from Donald, a zoologist, who delivered a fantastic workshop on Scottish wildlife.

He had all sorts of materials for the children to explore, including animal furs, skulls and feathers. These facilitated some fantastic discussions around what animals they came from and their evolutionary traits.

Scottish week in P4a

As part of Scottish week in P4a we were reading Neeps and Tatties by Carey Morning.
We worked together to translate Scots words from the book into English. We also built Scottish landmarks in the playroom, created our own versions of Scottish comics, played body percussion to keep the beat to some Scottish music and used Charles Rennie Mackintosh as some inspiration for art.

P4a Data Handling

P4a Data Handling

Over the last few weeks we have been gathering, displaying and interpreting different types of data.
This week the children created their own surveys, gathered the results and then created a digital bar graph to display their data.

P4a 3D Mini golf models

P4a 3D Mini golf models.
Following our Golf It trip last week, we designed our own Mini golf holes and made these using a range of different materials. The children worked in groups of 3 and used different tools and joining methods to create their 3D models.
Most importantly they had lots of fun making them and enjoyed getting to play with them during purposeful play this afternoon.

P4a Class Trip to Golf It

On Monday we were lucky to be one of the first classes to visit the new facilities at Golf It next to Hogganfield loch. The sun was shining and the children had a fantastic time putting their golfing skills learned at the end of P3 into real life practise. They were all extremely well behaved and listened intently to the coaches instructions.

When we returned to school we started designing our own mini golf holes and are going to build these as part of a technology lesson next week. If you have any cardboard boxes that you could bring in from home, or other materials that would be useful we would be very grateful.

Here are some action shots from the day.
