Primary 1 are superheroes this week. They have been learning to count and add. They have also compared the qualities of a good friend and a superhero and discovered that deep down we are all superheroes.
They had great fun learning about friction and static and were able to create enough static electricity to stick balloons to the walls and ceiling and make our hair stand on end.
They have been using instruments to create superhero onomatopoeia sound effects like bang, boom, crash, pow. Noisy but fun and effective.
Watch out for more superhero adventures.

After a busy week, Primary 1 created spooky Halloween ornaments using paper plates.
All ornaments are different but they are all amazing.

Primary 1 had lots of fun measuring each other and the teacher using non standard units.
They used lollipop sticks and cubes to work out who was the tallest and shortest.
They were able to learn measuring skills and vocabulary which they can use in future activities.

Primary 1 had an amazing experience with Wildside Nature when Donald came in to deliver a workshop. The children were learning about Halloween animals such as bats, owls and spiders.
They moved around like the animals and pretended to silently hunt their prey.
The highlight was learning about how bats use echo location to fly around in the dark and having an opportunity to be blindfolded and find each other by sound alone.
Donald was very impressed with the knowledge and vocabulary that the children had when they were discussing the animals and mammals.
Another great learning day in Primary 1.

Primary 1a have been using their imagination to explore the Enchanted Forest. They have created toadstools for fairies, heroes hideouts and lairs for villains. They also learned about the importance of trees in sustaining life and the planet and looked at the microscopic world through our bug viewers.

Primary 1a took their learning outdoors this week to consolidate number recognition, formation and counting. They used things found in nature to demonstrate their counting skills
.

Primary 1a have had a successful and busy start to primary 1. Not only have they been learning new sounds each week but they have been recognising numbers to 10 through fun counting activities and subtitizing. They have also extended their learning to the playroom where they are developing skills in collaboration, turn taking and sharing through our recent topic about dinosaurs.

Primary 1a worked together to discuss what was important to them to feel safe, happy and to learn in school and created their own class charter around these ideas. These skills and the rights that they have recognised will help them in the classroom and the wider school community.
Excitement in Primary 2 today as the children discovered one of our stick insects has hatched and was moving around the net. Just a little bit over a centimetre, it was welcomed into the class with squeals of delight.
Still a few more to hatch so eager eyes are watching.
Also the first of our cucamelon seedlings have popped through the soil.
Nature is an amazing teacher!
