The duo competed in a Schools Debate Competition at HolyRood Secondary and despite not winning were credible and well received competitors. Well done you two!

Yesterday we went to Shields Rd subway and travelled to Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery. There were 13 children and 3 Serbian teachers and Mr McCormack. We went on a treasure hunt to find different pictures, people, objects and sculptures. Before we began we had our lunch. We were given a map of the museum and questions with clues to help us. Nobody got all of them but we all found most of them. It was fun and we really enjoyed it. We also sat in the main hall and listened to some music played on an Organ which was enormous, gigantic or ginormous. When we left we saw a statue of World War 2 soldiers and Anthony took some pictures. We then went to Kelvinhall subway and on the way we saw Glasgow University, the River Kelvin as we crossed Partick Bridge. I want to go back to see what else is there, including statues as we didn’t have a lot of time. Written by Sufyaan and Muna.

So First we walked to the Subway, we bought our tickets and we boarded the Subway to Govan. We had 3 \Serbian visiting teachers with us. When we arrived at the radio station we were met by Heather, who is in charge and makes sure everyone is quiet. We made Jingles in groups of 4 and some of us worked with Jim. We made a St. Albert’s Jingle and did some for Sunny Govan too. The Serbian teachers helped us with ideas and spelling. We then recorded the jingles and put it all together. The Serbian teachers also recorded part of the jingles but did it in their first language which is Serbian. We used microphones, speakers and we saw how the mixing desk worked. We had a lot of fun but at the start it was a bit confusing as we weren’t sure how to do this or what to write about and say. Heather gave us some ideas, like “Unity in the Community” and ” Your Station Your Creation” and also STARS which stands for St. Albert’s Radio Station. We learned about a few jobs such as a Radio show Host / presenter/ Station manager. WE also met Brian who was writing scripts for shows and researching. We would love to go again as it was great fun and we were allowed to express ourselves.

We were put into 6 groups and given a list of foodstuffs to find and buy at the cheapest price we could find. All groups were given £10 and the group which came back with the most items and the most change would be the winners. The list of food included fresh fruit, tinned good, packet goods and spices. First we all went to Strawberry Gardens on Maxwell Drive to start the challenge. The people in the cash and carry were very friendly and helpful. We had a time limit so we had to be quick finding what we wanted.

After Strawberry Gardens we went to other local shops to pick up other things we needed. We were told to try and barter with the shop owners to see how cheaply we could get things. Some things we couldn’t get cheaper but other items were ok. We really loved the shopping task as it’s something we don’t normally get to do. 1 shop was just for the bartering task for an item we couldn’t buy or afford to buy but 1 group got £10 off a £15 item and they did really well to get that

When time had run out we returned to the class and laid out what we had bought. We had to keep the receipts as proof and any discounts were written on these. Miss Rehman’s group eventually won but it was close.
