Two years ago, our school community came together to raise funds for the Beatson Cancer Charity. Cancer impacts countless lives in different ways, and the Beatson continues to make an incredible difference through its compassionate care and unwavering support.

The Beatson Cancer Charity works alongside the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre – one of the leading cancer care facilities in the UK – providing vital funding for specialist staff, innovative research, and improved patient wellbeing. From emotional support and complementary therapies to cutting-edge treatments and clinical excellence, the charity ensures that patients and their families receive the best possible care at every stage of their journey.

We are proud to continue supporting the Beatson and the life-changing work they do for so many across Scotland.

This week in P7, we’ve been learning all about time! We practised reading clocks, working out time intervals, and solving tricky word problems. Next week, we’ll be moving on to time, speed, and distance. We can’t wait to see how they all connect!

In Literacy, we read the chapter Jack Will from Wonder and wrote our own character summaries about him. We then peer-assessed each other’s work, giving positive feedback and helpful next steps to help everyone improve.

We also had lots of fun with Mr Milligan, learning more about American handball. It was fast, exciting, and a great way to work as a team!

For numeracy this week, we have continued working with money. We have focused on solving money problems using the four operations and word problems. We also explored real-life budgeting by looking at paying rent, grocery shopping, and saving from a monthly salary.

For IDL, we have been researching and preparing solo talks on Greek gods and goddesses, which we will complete next week. Additionally, we studied Greek art and created our own vase designs.

We particularly enjoyed our sports session with Mr. Milligan, we were praised for our hard work and teamwork skills.

We can now take our iPads home if the QR code form has been completed. If another form is required, Ms. Wylie can print it out.

This week, we got measured for our leavers’ jumpers. Luckily, we’re getting them quicker than in previous years. The jumpers will all be oversized so they can fit us throughout the whole year. We also got to choose from a variety of colours.

For IDL, we finished our Trojan horses. In groups, we designed them and chose resources such as lollipop sticks, paper straws, wheels, and scrap paper. In Ancient Greece, the Trojan Horse was built to conceal warriors during battle. The purpose of our design was to replicate this idea.

For Wonder, we created some lovely precepts for our class, such as: “It doesn’t cost anything to be kind.”

Every Monday, we have been learning to play the pipe band drums and developing our skills in timing, rhythm, and focus. This has linked well to our topic, as the bagpipes originated in Ancient Greece.

We have continued reading Wonder. Our main character, Auggie, has started school, and the main themes of the book are bullying, friendship, and diversity. We have further developed our skimming and scanning skills by finding quotes in the book to justify our answers.

In maths, we have been focusing on multiplication strategies using the box method and the column method. When using the column method, we always need to remember to add the number we are carrying.

Today, we started back our committees. We have Wellbeing, Road Safety, Library, Outdoor Learning, Sports, Diversity, and Digital committees.

P7b Curriculum Newsletter – Term 1 2025-26

We’ve had a wonderful start to the year and have settled well into our classroom routines, such as preparing for lessons and taking on our roles as class carers. We have worked with different classmates and developing our friendships.

In Literacy, we have been reading Wonder, a story about a boy named Auggie. This book has sparked discussions around celebrating diversity, overcoming adversity, and exploring different emotions.

We are all very excited about what the year has in store from pantomimes, our residential trip, and receiving our leavers’ hoodies
