We had a lovely day celebrating World Book Day in P7B on Thursday. Our focus was on books linked to our current topic – World War 2.

We continued reading ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ and made key comparisons between our two main characters, Bruno and Shmuel. The class discussed how the boys come from very different backgrounds but share many similarities. We talked about how their friendship shows kindness and innocence, even during a very difficult time in history.

After this, we explored a range of other fiction books set during the war, including Goodnight Mr Tom and The Bletchley Riddle. Using what we have already learned about World War 2, the class then designed their own books. We created imaginative front covers and wrote our own blurbs. These turned out fantastic, with many different themes explored such as The Enigma Code, Evacuation and The Blitz.
