First Week in February

For numeracy this week, we completed our learning on 2D shapes and have now moved on to exploring symmetry across four quadrants. We will be finishing this learning next week before moving on to 3D shapes.

In writing, we transferred our learning from our topic on WWII evacuees to create flow charts showing the evacuation process. This is helping us build our understanding in preparation for our upcoming assessment, where we will be writing an explanation text about the WWII evacuations.

During reading this week, we took on key roles which rotated daily, including summariser, clarifier and questioner. We independently summarised their texts, identified new vocabulary and meanings, and created literal, inferential and evaluative questions to deepen their understanding.

In PE, we have now moved on to gymnastics and this week focused on developing skills in jumps and rolls. A reminder that our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday.

Shape, Writing & PE

This week in P7B, we have moved on to learning about shape. Our initial focus has been on 2D shapes, including polygons and quadrilaterals. We have been using resources such as compasses and protractors to explore key concepts including diameter, radius and angles.

The class did exceptionally well in their spelling tests this week. We practise spelling daily, focusing on a range of skills such as diacritical marking, syllabification, dictionary work, and using our spelling words in context within sentences. In literacy, we completed our explanation texts on How a Volcano Erupts. We broke the process into clear steps and ensured we used appropriate technical vocabulary, including molten rock, eruption and crater.

This term, we have completed Scottish country dancing in PE and will now be moving on to gymnastics. A reminder that our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday.

Our Week in P7b

This week, we have been learning about patterns and relationships. We explored Fibonacci sequences, triangular numbers, square numbers, as well as factors and multiples. We then moved on to chance and probability, learning and using the vocabulary likely, unlikely, impossible, certain and even chance. Pupils were encouraged to use correct mathematical language when discussing their ideas.

As part of our explanation writing this term, we began our writing preparation on How a Volcano Erupts. We broke the process into clear steps and identified key technical vocabulary to support our writing.

In topic, we are learning about World War II. The class completed WW2-inspired art based on the Clydebank Blitz and shared family stories linked to the war. In the afternoon, we continued reading The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, which links closely to our WW2 topic.

Enterprise Week!

This week in P7B, we had a big focus on Enterprise Week. Throughout December, we came up with business ideas to raise money for our school, and today we held our Enterprise Fayre, inviting all the classes to visit our classroom.

We sold empire biscuits, fairy bread, comic books, sweetie bags, and ran different games and competitions. The day was a huge success, with most of our items sold. We used our advertising, bargaining, and sales pitch skills to promote and sell our products.

On Monday, we will find out how much profit our fantastic businesses have generated!

Our Week

This week in P7B, we continued developing our understanding of measure, exploring volume, length and weight. A key focus was remembering to include the correct units of measure such as cm, mm and cm³ in all our work.

We completed our final assessed writing piece, creating descriptive settings based on a Winter Wonderland. To bring our writing to life, we used a range of literary devices including personification, onomatopoeia, similes and metaphors. We were also very proud of our fantastic spelling results!

As part of our Enterprise Project, we designed posters about different jobs and identified the skills and qualities needed for each one. We also filled out job applications and took turns interviewing one another for our chosen roles.

End of November

We have had a very busy week in P7b! From learning in the classroom to a visit from PATHS, school trips and working on our Enterprise Project, there has been lots going on.
In maths, we finished our work on fractions, decimals and percentages. We showed a great understanding of these skills in our assessments, and we were all very proud of our results.
At the start of the week, we had a visit from PATHS. We showed how well we understand different emotions and learned more about how to solve and calm down conflicts.
On Thursday, we had an amazing time at the Panto! It was lovely going with the whole school, and we all had a great laugh together.
To finish off our week, we carried out our market research for our Enterprise topic. We invited pupils from P3–P6 to join us in focus groups to help us decide if we need to make any changes to our products.
What a great week for P7b!

Our Week!

This week, we spent time reading over our writing and making it even better. We looked for places where we could uplevel our sentences by adding advanced connectives and punctuation. We also tried adding more imagery, like personification, similes, and metaphors, to make our writing come alive. Everyone worked really hard and showed great creativity!

In maths, we kept learning about fractions. We practised turning fractions into decimals and percentages, and we’re getting much more confident with knowing how they all connect.

In the afternoons, we enjoyed writing in our gratitude diaries. Each day, we wrote about things we are grateful for and something we like about ourselves. It has been lovely seeing everyone’s positive thoughts and kind reflections.

We have also been practising our spelling a lot this week, and we are very proud of our results.

Just a little reminder that we still have two more dress down Fridays to look forward to.

Happy November!

This week in P7B, we began exploring fractions. Our focus was on finding fraction quantities, identifying equivalent fractions, simplifying, and ordering or comparing fractions. We transferred many of our existing multiplication and division skills to help solve these problems and made good use of tools such as multiplication grids to support our learning.

In writing, we completed our Haunted House stories, using the detailed plans we had prepared earlier. We focused on creating vivid imagery through the use of similes, metaphors, and personification to bring our writing to life. Next week, we will move on to editing and improving our stories – looking carefully for errors and opportunities to uplevel our writing.

We also launched our new Enterprise topic. As a class, we discussed a range of ideas for how we might raise money, and over the coming weeks, we will continue to develop our business ideas further.

Halloween Week

This week, we had our Halloween discos — our very last Primary School Halloween disco! We had a fantastic time playing corners, musical bumps, and even taking part in a dance-off with the teachers (which we won!).

In maths, we finished learning about time. We explored speed, distance, and time, as well as reading different types of clocks. Next week, we’ll be moving on to fractions.

In literacy, we have been learning how to write descriptive settings. We planned our writing pieces and created up-levelled sentences to prepare for our final drafts.

After school, our football team played brilliantly and won every game!
