Our Learning This Week 🌟
We have had another busy week in Primary 6, with lots of fantastic learning taking place across the curriculum!
➖ Numeracy
In Numeracy, we have been focusing on subtraction strategies and developing our confidence when working with larger numbers. We have been practising regrouping and thinking carefully about which strategies can help us solve subtraction calculations accurately and efficiently.
📚 Literacy
In Literacy, we have continued reading our class novel and have been exploring the developing friendships between the main characters. We discussed how their relationships have changed throughout the story and used evidence from the text to support our ideas.
In Writing, we have been learning about explanation texts. This week, our challenge was to explain how a volcano erupts. We learned about the different stages of an eruption before organising our ideas and using clear, factual language to create our own explanation texts.
🤝 Health and Wellbeing
Our Health and Wellbeing focus this week has been respect. We discussed what it means to show and receive respect and considered the different ways we can demonstrate respect towards others. We also explored how it feels when someone is disrespectful and discussed positive and sensible ways we can respond when this happens.
🏀 PE
In PE, we have been developing our basketball skills, with a focus on improving our control, passing, movement and ability to work together as a team. We have also taken part in a range of teamwork games and challenges, where good communication and cooperation have been really important.
Some members of the class have also continued with their swimming lessons. They have been working hard to improve their technique and confidence in the water and have now progressed to taking part in some short races.
💡 Victorians
In our Victorians topic, we have started investigating some of the important inventions of the Victorian era. We looked at how these inventions changed everyday life for people during Victorian times and considered their impact on areas such as work, travel, communication and life at home.
Working in groups, we researched different Victorian inventions and created Keynote presentations to share our findings. Each group then presented their invention to the rest of the class, developing both our research and presentation skills.
Another productive week in Primary 6 — well done everyone! 👏
