π Primary 6A Weekly Update! π
This week, Primary 6A has been channeling their inner astronauts! Weβve been concentrating on sharpening our recount writing skills. The class took on an exciting challenge: writing a detailed recount from the unique perspective of Neil Armstrong during the moon landing. Theyβve worked hard to use strong descriptive language and structure their writing clearly.
In Maths, our focus shifted to measurement. We delved into the world of metric measurement, learning not just how to measure with accuracy but also how to confidently convert between different metric units (e.g., millimeters to centimeters, meters to kilometers). This is a crucial skill for real-world problem-solving!
Our Topic work explored the vital resource of water. We compared and contrasted water uses in developed and developing countries, specifically looking at the differences and similarities between Scotland and Sudan. This has sparked some fantastic discussions about resource management and global citizenship.
To get into the Halloween spirit, the class got creative in Art! Inspired by the famous artist Picasso and the Cubism movement, Primary 6A produced some truly unique and spooky masterpieces: a series of cubist Dracula portraits! They used geometric shapes and multiple perspectives to create abstract, eye-catching Halloween art.
We’ve had a busy and productive week! Please ask your child to share their Neil Armstrong recount or tell you about their Picasso-inspired Dracula!

Comments Off on This week in P6a!

This week P6a have made strong progress across the curriculum.
In Maths, they have been consolidating their understanding of place value by ordering and partitioning numbers, while also applying strategies for addition and subtraction in both written and mental calculations. They practised telling the time using both analogue and digital clocks, linking their skills to real-life problem solving.
In Literacy, pupils developed spelling strategies to apply patterns and rules in their independent writing. Through their comprehension work on The Girl Who Stole an Elephant, they practised finding and using evidence from the text to justify their answers, and they explored how explanation texts are structured to make information clear for a reader.
In HWB, learners identified and discussed a range of emotions, recognising how these can influence thoughts and actions, and considered strategies to manage feelings in different contexts.
In STEM, as part of the Primary Engineering Project, pupils applied creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork to design an invention that could benefit society today.

Primary 6A have had a busy and productive week, deeply engaged in developing their skills across the curriculum. In writing, they have been focusing on explanation texts, learning how to clearly structure their ideas and use precise language to inform their readers effectively. During reading, theyβve been exploring their class novel with enthusiasm, using context clues to make thoughtful predictions about characters and plot developments, which has helped to sharpen their inference skills. In numeracy, the class has been revising place value, working hard to consolidate their understanding of large numbers and their importance in everyday math. Their hard work and focus are really starting to shine through in all areas of learning.
