We began this week learning about Chinese New Year, exploring how it is celebrated and the different traditions associated with it. We were lucky to have some visitors who helped us make traditional Chinese lanterns and taught us how to write the word ‘spring’ in Chinese.

Literacy
In Literacy, we read the next chapter of our class novel and answered comprehension questions to show our understanding of the text. We also continued working on using ambitious adjectives. In writing, we created a fact file about a rainforest animal, focusing on presenting information clearly.
Maths
In Maths, we learned how to measure accurately using a ruler and developed our estimation skills. During numeracy sessions, we revisited and practised different subtraction strategies.
Other Learning
As part of our topic work, we discussed rainforest food chains and identified animals at the top and bottom of the chain. We also enjoyed exploring the new activities in our creative play area, especially the colourful collage macaws that many of us have begun to create.
