The SQA examination requires pupils to complete a written or typed Portfolio.  This is worth 50% of a pupils overall grade and is marked out of 60.

The other 50% of the grade is made up of practical performance marks.  Pupils will add their scores together for 2 competitive performances that they must complete.  Pupils get to choose what 2 activities they get graded in.  Each activity is scored out of 30 marks.

Community Sports Leadership Levels 4, 5 and 6

Community Sports Leadership is a nationally recognised qualification that has an outstanding record of developing leadership skills in our young people.  The qualification consists of a number of units that pupils work through to gain experience.

Wellbeing Award

In S4 we offer our young people the opportunity to complete the Wellbeing Award.  This award is involves both theoretical and practical elements.  The purpose of the award is to help young people identify aspects of their wellbeing they are keen to improve and then take practical steps to achieve this.

Our Refereeing Award allows young people to become fully qualified Referees and offers a clear pathway into the profession.  Young people can referee football matches  immediately after achieving their qualification and earn a minimum of £40 per match.  The course has an electronic exam on the laws of the game, a physical fitness test,  match report unit and practical exam involving refereeing a match.

Core PE

The Scottish Government recommends that pupils receive a minimum of two periods of quality Physical Education per week.  At King’s Park Secondary all senior pupils receive this allocation in the form of a double period.  Through pupil consultation we have developed a unique way of delivering our Senior Phase Core PE programme.  Pupils opt in to a class which suits their individual needs.  Each class then rotates round three of our working areas.  Classes spend 30 minutes in each working area before moving on to the next one.  The activities we offer in each area and the way in which they are delivered changes depending on the unique group of learners we have in front of us.

To help develop lifelong physical activity habits we also try to engage our senior pupils in physical activities out in our local community.  We often book facilities at Castlemilk Sports Centre, Gorbals Leisure Centre, Toryglen Football Centre and Queens Park to give our pupils additional experiences out with school.  We also visit local parks to go for walks.
